Serious question: I know when I went through the process the CHL teams only covered education if you didn't go pro......and by PRO they meant ANY level of PRO hockey. So if I played in the CHL and played 2 GAMES in the ECHL my college education package was GONE. Does anyone know if this is still how it works? If so, then the whole Education Package is a joke. I would hope the CHL has changed that rule to NHL or AHL by now or there are 80% of the CHL players who go without an education package.

I think you are underrating how awesome it is to be a Junior player in Canada. It brings all the same benefits as the "college life" just without the education. Also the CHL covers education costs for their former players who don't go pro and decide to get educated after their eligibility runs up with the CHL. CHL teams are generally located in nice cities too, not "piss hole" small towns as you say it is. As much as I hate to hear this happening, I disagree with why you say it is happening.
