Now with the Luongo business, all I can say to you is this … please “get over “your” hatred of “my” hatred of greed” ! Here in Vancouver “Luongo & his millions” is a huge story and it will continue to be so, until such time that the issue is finally resolved … not to mention the fact that it’s downright fascinating ! By trashing the Canucks the way he did, Luongo has painted himself into a corner. He wants “out” asap and yet there’s now little chance of that ever happening, unless of course he becomes “flexible” with the remaining $54 million on his contract ? I’m actually now convinced that Gillis is intentionally stalling, knowing full well that with training camp just around the corner, all he has to do is sit back and let Luongo squirm. There’s no way Luongo can show up to the Canucks’ camp, not now … and yet if he doesn’t, then he’ll likely breach certain “performance” clauses in his contract, which in turn may render the entire agreement null and void ? If that should happen then the Canucks will no longer have the “financial knife” of Luongo’s greed pointing at their throats ! They’ll be free to wheel and deal again in-order to augment the skill which they already have with the likes of the Sedin brothers and Schneider ! As for Luongo ? Well suffice it say that he won’t be very pleased. Nonetheless, he is not a poor man and so it will do him well to be able to move on and make a fresh “new” start somewhere …

Hes a solid player, but hes only put up 50 points each of the last two seasons… and those numbers are only likely to slide as the years go on. Perhaps with the right players on the right team he could be a 60-65 point player next year, but its not likely. So I have no idea who in the hell would offer him $7 million next year, let alone for the next four years.

Shero’s nothing if not patient. The Pens have enough firepower to begin the season as is – which is exactly what they’ll do. Then, they’ll make a trade for a better, younger player when the right situation presents itself – just like they did with Neal.

And if one of the three teams he visited but not New York made the offer, then it was clearly Philly since they’ve been trying to buy players with big money offers all summer. One of these times it’ll work, eh?

More importantly, Shero has enough sense to know Doan deserves no where near that money, and the Pens aren’t desperate. Sid can start the season with Kunitz and Dupuis on his wings. The Pens know that signing Letang and Geno next year is far more important that signing a 35 year-old, glorified role player.
