Happy 25th birthday, Sidney Crosby

Aug 7, 2012, 12:40 PM EDT

Sidney Crosby AP

Given that it’s the seventh day of the eighth month, it can only mean one thing:

Sidney Crosby‘s havin’ a birthday!

Yep, 25 years ago today — 8/7/87, in case you’re wondering how the “87” infatuation came to be — Sid the Kid was born.

Here’s a quick rundown of the things he’s accomplished in his first 25 years on the planet:

– Stanley Cup
— Richard, Art Ross, Hart and Lester B. Pearson trophies
— Olympic gold medal
— World Junior gold medal
— Four All-Star Games

In a related story — when I was 25, I worked graveyard shifts as a hotel security guard.

Hey! Happy birthday little fruitcake (also soon to be vegetable)

    • ucaneverscorenoughgoals - Aug 7, 2012 at 1:43 PM

I don’t think fruitcakes can turn into vegetables……yeaaa maybe they become green once they are too old…but not really a vegetable.

    • elemeno89 - Aug 7, 2012 at 2:24 PM

better hockey player than you, me, or really anyone playing in the current system.

    • tbbolts91 - Aug 9, 2012 at 1:00 PM

      this is so biased….

  2. dannymac17 - Aug 7, 2012 at 12:49 PM

    I don’t remember when i turned 25. It seems 23-28 has been a blur.

    Thank you Booze.

  3. mclovinhockey - Aug 7, 2012 at 12:55 PM

    No stupid comments please!

If you want to make a comment about Sid, good or bad, please look at the YouTube video Crosby VS CRYsby…. It shows why he is one of the most loved and hated players in this game and the majority of comments about him are very biased ignorant remarks.

    • rpb1234 - Aug 7, 2012 at 6:13 PM

You should practice what you preach

      • mclovinhockey - Aug 8, 2012 at 10:42 AM

well considering I make my comments as unbiased as physically possible.

FYI, notice the creator of the video is Mclovintheflyers. Just to show I am unbiased in my views.

    • bmoreredfury311 - Aug 7, 2012 at 6:49 PM

      Video is spot on.
Not sure about the rest of it though..He brings it on himself.

  4. biffnasty - Aug 7, 2012 at 12:55 PM

to celebrate this occasion, cindy is going to a male strip club where he is VIP

    • m1k3g - Aug 7, 2012 at 1:10 PM

Where your mom will be stuffing that g string all night

  5. davidsmj22 - Aug 7, 2012 at 1:06 PM

Celebrating today cause it means you’re a year closer to leaving the league. have a good one Cindy

    • handsofsweed - Aug 7, 2012 at 4:08 PM

That’s how you know someone is a terrifying HOF’er. When opposing fans nervously and frenetically make the looooooooong count towards said players retirement. You sound like a Browns fan that was owned by Elway.

      • atwatercrushesokoye - Aug 7, 2012 at 7:14 PM

1 hart trophy, 1 Art Ross trophy, 1 Stanley Cup in 7 seasons, he’ll get into the hall of fame because of the “next Gretzky” hype the preceded him but really his career to date hasn’t been nearly as remarkable as many believe.

      • kitshky - Aug 8, 2012 at 1:56 AM

        @atwatercrush…

Stanley Cup winner, Hart Trophy winner, Art Ross Trophy winner, All Star, 609 points in 434 games … add to that an Olympic Gold Medal and World Junior Championship all before age 25?

        What a disappointment … get a grip.

  6. ahhhyeah - Aug 7, 2012 at 1:09 PM

    Haters gonna hate.

  7. lostpuppysyndrome - Aug 7, 2012 at 1:13 PM

I, for one, am wishing Sid a happy birthday and many, many more years of pissing off Flyers fans, other fans, and Americans. Keep it up, Cros.

    • rpb1234 - Aug 7, 2012 at 6:15 PM

I am sure that he appreciates that you are wishing him a happy birthday. He is probably also upset that people don’t like him.

      • lostpuppysyndrome - Aug 7, 2012 at 11:00 PM

Well, I do know that he checks PHT religiously and he will most certainly appreciate all the birthday wishes, and he also hears and respects all of our various opinions about him and the vast range of hockey topics.

  8. fleurystooths - Aug 7, 2012 at 1:16 PM

25 years and 9 months ago today, the passed Frederick Arthur Stanley visited Halifax, Nova Scotia and planted his ghost seed in Trina Crosby knowing that his spirit love child would be the greatest hockey player that ever was, ever is, and ever will be. Stan knew the moment Sid’s soup can saw the light, he would be the only one truly destined to raise his holy grail. Let us pay our respects to the birth of our savior. In the name of the Lips, and of the Can, and the Holy Thighs… Amen. SCA.

    • atwatercrushesokoye - Aug 7, 2012 at 7:16 PM

You’d think a player that great would have more than 1 Hart trophy, 1 Art Ross Trophy and 1 Stanley Cup in his 7 year career?

  9. weberhatesfilthy - Aug 7, 2012 at 1:32 PM

It seems like yesterday we were celebrating the momentous occasion of
this redwood getting its 24th ring, but alas another year has come and
gone and we get to add a celebratory 25th today. I feel very sorry for
the lovely lady that will receive him and all his glistening glory
tonight. This day is very important in the CBA talks as well, because
with the added stumpiness to his loins, the NHL can no longer pursue
integrating 3D technology for games. It will cause fainting, hot
flashes, and of course jealousy from all you beta dudes out there.
There can only be one true Alpha male in this world and you are all
invited to his birthday bash in the city of champions.

    • ucaneverscorenoughgoals - Aug 7, 2012 at 1:41 PM

What does any of that even mean?

    • elemeno89 - Aug 7, 2012 at 2:23 PM

classic. made me lol pret-ty hard.

  10. georgia166 - Aug 7, 2012 at 1:38 PM

Actually the Flyers annoy, irritate and get under Cindy’s skin more then any other team out there so hate on Pens lady fans!

  11. blues1988 - Aug 7, 2012 at 1:41 PM

its mike trout’s bday today too and he’s turnin 21, 2 young studs still in their prime with the same bday!

  12. blomfeld - Aug 7, 2012 at 1:52 PM

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY SYDNEY !

Crosby has to be the most polarizing player in the game today … much like Tiger Woods in golf or Kobe Bryant in basketball … and quite frankly I don’t get it ? Unlike say an Ovechkin or Parise, Crosby plays “full out” on every shift, giving his absolute “all” for his team ! About the only negative thing I can see with him, is his “off ice” persona which unfortunately comes across as being too “robotic & contrived”. Apart from that however, I don’t see the need for so much hate ?

Anyway, we LA Kings don’t consider the Penguins to be any kind of a serious threat, which probably explains my bewilderment at the hate which this man generates ? All I know is that we met the very “best” which the East had to offer this year and we “destroyed” them in detail ! … good times ! :)

I therefore wish Crosby a very happy birthday ! :)

    • atwatercrushesokoye - Aug 7, 2012 at 7:18 PM

I’m giving you thumbs up based solely on the fact that you posted something other than Elvis!

      • blomfeld - Aug 7, 2012 at 11:46 PM

  13. jacketsfan7 - Aug 7, 2012 at 2:01 PM

    Happy bday Sid

  14. jacketsfan7 - Aug 7, 2012 at 2:04 PM

All you haters out there shut the f**k up , we don’t do that bulls**t to giroux , ovechkin , Kovalchuk , nor gaborik or Tavares now do we? Ok well maybe we do but we don’t like you nor do you like us so respect us and well respect you case closed

    • handsofsweed - Aug 7, 2012 at 4:20 PM

Who is “we” and “us?” WTF are you talking about? Are you sure you’re on the right thread? This is about a guy who plays for Pittsburgh, right?

  15. danphipps01 - Aug 7, 2012 at 2:05 PM

So can we stop calling him “Sid the Kid” now? Because it seems like that should happen at some point.

    • sheckyrimshot - Aug 7, 2012 at 2:18 PM

not until he can grow a proper moustache

      • lostpuppysyndrome - Aug 7, 2012 at 3:50 PM

^That made me actually lol. Well said, sir.

      • handsofsweed - Aug 7, 2012 at 4:22 PM

Ok. That WAS pretty funny. Not gonna lie. Sigh. Why, Sid, why?

  16. broadstbully33 - Aug 7, 2012 at 2:28 PM

@blonfield you didnt even come close the best in the east new jersey got hot at the right time. not taking anything away from them but its the truth. and your team couldnt score until game 6 of the stanley cup. h quick won the cup and dragged 19 teammates with him..as for thus dynasty nonsense your spewing every where i have a question for you, when was the last time a team repeated? so congrats on flyers west stanley cup but calm down

    • blomfeld - Aug 7, 2012 at 4:18 PM

FLYERS Dresses Now on Sale for only $9.99 ! … Buy Two, Get One Free !

Sorry there pal, but saying something as dumb as “your team couldn’t score until game 6″ suggests that you’re perhaps a little “slow” ? … is that correct ? Yeah, I suppose all those goals that we scored (8) against Brodeur in the first three games of the series were just “make believe” or something ? Look, apart from the fact that the Flyers are essentially a “criminal” organization, I personally have nothing against you people. In fact, I actually kind of like you guys, as taking great players away from you is easier than taking candy away from children ! As for our dynasty of “multiple” Stanley Cup Championships which we Kings have now just begun ? Again, all I can say is … “thanks, it was great doing business with you !” :) And by the way, my name is “Blomfeld” … not bloody blonfield !

GO “BIG BAD” FLYERS GO ! … YOU GUYS REALLY ROCK MAN !!!!

  17. bobhpine - Aug 7, 2012 at 2:48 PM

Losers hate winners, see comments above and then read 87’s accomplishments again…read that Stanley cup part a few times too all you little Philly trolls…it’s been awhile hasn’t it?

    • georgia166 - Aug 7, 2012 at 2:51 PM

Flyers have owned the Pens over the years , mmkay?

      • m1k3g - Aug 7, 2012 at 3:59 PM

        1975

      • elemeno89 - Aug 7, 2012 at 4:06 PM

you want to know something funny. the last time the flyers have won the cup was 1975, and the last time the penguins won the cup was 2009. but since the flyers cup in 75, the pens have won three, tot he flyers 2 total. so that would make you wrong i guess…

      • handsofsweed - Aug 7, 2012 at 4:26 PM

You should probably stop posting, Georgia. This is the third time you’ve been put flat on your back in the same thread. TKO.

Put a bag of frozen peas on each of your busted eye sockets, grab a beer, lie down on the couch and call it a day, peanut.

    • atwatercrushesokoye - Aug 7, 2012 at 7:23 PM

Dude, 7 years, 1 cup, 1 Hart trophy, 1 Art Ross trophy….his “accomplishments” aren’t actually all that remarkable. The legend of Crosby is so much greater than what he’s actually done.

      • kitshky - Aug 8, 2012 at 2:42 PM

Keep beating that moron drum …

The only truly amazing thing about all this is you don’t realize how ridiculous you sound, you make habsman and blomfeld seem unbiased and clear headed.

  18. pithockey - Aug 7, 2012 at 3:24 PM

But the main thing is the cup buddy and the pens won one in 09 while beating the flyers to get there… The cup is everything I don’t care how many president trophy’s you win it’s all about the cup… They beat us bad last year but we beat the two times before… They haven’t really “owned” us

    • mclovinhockey - Aug 8, 2012 at 11:00 AM

i think he was talking about ALL TIME… in the history of the two franchises, head to head its been philly by a landslide, thats just stats, pitt still has one more cup and in the playoffs philly has a slight head to head advantage as well. Eaither way, thats all the past, it seems like all everyone wants to talk about, all that matters is who will be better next year… both teams took some damage in O and D.. Pitt got a much better backup, phillys backup got much worse. Overall its two different teams than last year, I think they are pretty damn even this year.

  19. cameltoews - Aug 7, 2012 at 3:25 PM

No matter what the topic is it always turns into pens vs flyers with some real comments that’ll the middle that many of us would like to respond to. It really gets f*#king annoying.

  20. cameltoews - Aug 7, 2012 at 3:26 PM

This pens vs flyers bullsh!t on every thread is f*#king annoying.

  21. slumdog66 - Aug 7, 2012 at 3:34 PM

Flyers have owned the pens for the last couple of years….ok? When did one of those result in a Stanley cup? None. This is coming from a ducks fan. Philly fans are seriously moronic. Happy birthday Sid

    • m1k3g - Aug 7, 2012 at 4:04 PM

And most Flyers fans conveniently forget that we rolled over them in the playoffs on our way to the Cup final in consecutive years.

      • georgia166 - Aug 7, 2012 at 9:05 PM

LOL if it wearnt for the Flyers your Penguins wouldnt even exist. All time head to head match up’s and all time playoff match up’s arent even close. When the Flyers win their 3rd Cup before or ever you win a another one ..ok then what?

  22. ballsohardu - Aug 7, 2012 at 3:37 PM

    Happy birthday crybaby

  23. lonespeed - Aug 7, 2012 at 3:38 PM

Can you imagine how much he must whine on his birthday?

  24. flyersfan67 - Aug 7, 2012 at 3:50 PM

Happy birthday, you pansy ass cry baby!!

  25. joewilliesshnoz - Aug 7, 2012 at 4:42 PM

Happy birthday to the best hockey player on earth. P.S. the flyers suck!

    • victoriavallie - Aug 12, 2012 at 2:13 AM

thanks but its not Stamkos birthday!

  26. dannythebisforbeast - Aug 7, 2012 at 6:27 PM

Why do you feel the need to single out Crosbys birthday? Is it cuz He still cries and $h!ts himself like a newborn 25 years later.

    • theageofquarrel - Aug 7, 2012 at 6:51 PM

Funny coming from a guy who supports Look The Other Way University,Joe Paterno and Jerry Sandusky

  27. bmoreredfury311 - Aug 7, 2012 at 7:00 PM

Why dont they announce every players birthday. PHT?
    Sad….

  28. chubbedjox - Aug 7, 2012 at 7:12 PM

Everybody knows that Soup Can’s birth is holier than Gods himself. In fact, Soup Can has more girth, power and a bigger following than all of the other false gods… Rejoice in the birth of the Allmighty 87 that occurred 25 precious years ago!!!. AMEN SID YOU ARE SENSATIONAL

    • kitshky - Aug 8, 2012 at 2:40 PM

(and yet Malholtra and Garrison were a ” bunch of queers” … riiigghhhtt)

  29. mclovinhockey - Aug 7, 2012 at 8:03 PM

That’s another thing, if sid would stop getting compared to Wayne it would be so much better for him. No one will ever match Wayne’s numbers. Sid will finish his career with about half the stats of Wayne. So when you compare them sid looks highly overrated… He is not Wayne. If you don’t compare them Sid becomes a better player. It’s like Jagr to Mario. Jagr will never match mario… But jags on his own is amazing.

  30. happybirthdaythickloins - Aug 7, 2012 at 8:42 PM

im so proud that pro crosby talk takes a moment out of their day to reflect on the greatest player in the league. the guy with the girthiest meat member turned 25 today, the guy that terrorizes trashadelphia like nobodys business, the guy that women have to wear depends when around him because they drip with moisture. we thank you almight soup can sid, we are all blessed by your jock and we love you. keep on winning!! SCA

  31. happybirthdaythickloins - Aug 7, 2012 at 9:24 PM

georgia, shouldnt you be in the kitchen making dinner or doing the laundry? you shouldnt have time to watch hockey games.

  32. chubbedjox - Aug 7, 2012 at 9:43 PM

I luv all the jealous haters in Filly that get down on their filthy scumbag knees every night and pray that they had someone, ANYONE on their halfbreed team that had ANY girth. The reality is that their players have flaps and will never raise the Crosby Cup. Keep dreamin of 1975 ya losers HAHAHAAAAA! !!!

  33. bobhpine - Aug 8, 2012 at 7:55 AM

Yeah somehow the golden goal in the Vancouver Olympics isn’t that meaningful

  34. steeltuff - Aug 8, 2012 at 2:06 PM

Sid the Kid and the Angels’ Mike Trout both born on August 7. Great day!
