Ovechkin is obviously your hero and therefore I will “stand down”. In fact, I believe that you’re to be commended for coming to the defense of your hero in such a “spirited and virtuous” manner, as that is the sign of a “true” fan … God knows that I would do the same if anyone ever questioned the fortitude of my heroes (ie: Jonathan Quick, Drew Doughty and company). Nonetheless, I do suggest that you “take it easy” with the personal insults, unless you wish to come to the attention of my gun captains ? I’ll have you know that I was a “Canadian” fan of Soviet hockey some 40 years ago, during the greatest series that was ever played ! Tretiak, Kharlamov, Maltsev, Petrov, Mikhailov and Gusev will “forever” be some of my “greatest” heroes of all time ! Those men played for “country and pride” and nothing more … they were not “petulant” punks playing for 10 million dollars a year ! The again, today forty years later, we’re living in a much different world with different norms and values … and so I’ll that there, as you likely mean well.

Couldn’t agree more PHT loves to chop and paste articles. We all know if this was CRYbaby, Nash or Malkin instead of Ovi.. PHT and the rest of the flock of sheep would be tickle pink and sing their praises.

Ovi is growing into a great captain and play-maker. Cant wait til Oct 12th!

So you saw a game in Vancouver? I’m guessing that was the only game you saw Ovechkin play and from that one game you decided he is immature, conceited and apparently not a team player. I am a Caps fan and have watched nearly every game Ovechkin has played since he entered the league. When he was younger, he did show the usual immaturity players display; however, he has grown up a bit. You think he is selfish because his leg was hanging over the boards? I hope he never loses that enthusiasm to get back on the ice. I can honestly say Ovechkin is a team player, he is all about the team. If you had seen him play more the ONE game, you would see that his reaction when a teammate scores is just as joyous, and sometimes more joyous than when he himself scores. There is no player that shows his passion and love for hockey more the Alex. You should be embarrassed for disliking a player because he loves the game. There is no player in the entire league I would take over Ovechkin, not one. If you are jealous because he doesn’t play on your team, I get that, but you shouldn’t hate him because of it.

As usual, any article about Ovi is written in a way that makes him sound like it’s all about him. The tweet where he comments about “That’s my prize for the Olympic games”, was accompanied with a picture of his girlfriend kissing him on the cheek. It was quite obvious he was referring to the kiss as his prize, but of course the guy writing this article didn’t include that info. Better to let Ovechkin look like a jerk. I watched most of the tennis matches that Maria played in and, of course they were often showing shots of Ovechkin in the stands. Every time she won Ovi was shown standing, applauding and grinning from ear to ear. When she wasn’t doing so well, they showed him not looking too happy. When she won the medal he had his phone out taking photos of her and again grinning from ear to ear. Just so you know, you shouldn’t believe most of the articles on this site about most of the players, they are usually incomplete stories and usually biased.

danphipps – excellent comment … with all kidding aside, that is “exactly” why I dislike Ovechkin so vehemently … he’s quite simply an immature, conceited, albeit “talented” goof, who’s only in it for himself … I recall a Saturday night game here in Vancouver this past year, where this clown was constantly dangling his leg over the boards at the bench, essentially telling his teammates on the ice … “yeah, yeah, yeah, just hurry up and get off the ice already, because “I” need to get out there again” …

in many ways, Ovechkin reminds me a lot of Pavel Bure … I’ll never forget this game against the Kings in circa ’96, where the Canucks were losing something like 7-1 in the 3rd period and then Bure scored his “60th” to make it 7-2 … despite the fact that the Canucks were being pummeled, he saw to it to jump up and down like he had just scored a Stanley Cup winner …
