If the Islanders had played at Barclays last season, on average they still wouldn’t have filled it so demand wouldn’t really change much. Yes, the percentage looks much better than a bigger arena but when you’re averaging ~13k/game, it still looks bad. Plus, how many Philly/NYR/NJD fans came out to Nassau? I don’t think moving to Barclays will make a whole lot of difference, but that’s just my opinion.

make the move, keep the name, fill the seats, everyone wins.

This isn’t a true relocation so it’s not like the city will be overjoyed to have a team when it never really left. I know a lot of folks will compare this to Winnipeg but A) Winnipeg hadn’t had an NHL team for 15 years, B) Winnipeg is nuts for hockey, C) they’ve sold 13k season tickets for an arena that holds 15k, and D) they’ve been making hand over fist in merch sales, not to mention that they have a solid organization that the fans trust in.
