The problem is with less seats you have to charge more, Winnipeg's ticket prices are pretty high. Could the Islanders do that when as you've said there are plenty of other hockey options close by?

It can mean less empty seats but that's still no guarantee. If the Islanders had played at Barclays last season, on average they still wouldn't have filled it so demand wouldn't really change much. Yes, the percentage looks much better than a bigger arena but when you're averaging ~13k/game, it still looks bad. Plus, how many Philly/NYR/NJD fans came out to Nassau? I don't think moving to Barclays will make a whole lot of difference, but that's just my opinion.

well a smaller arena means less empty seats. a move to a denser population center could attract more fans, especially those from the city wanting to watch the rangers, or those from nj wanting to watch the devils. hell even philly is less than an hour away on public transportation. the cheap ticket sales would definitely attract those crowds. not to mention nassau colloseum is dated. extremely dated, for the sports modern transition.

Problem is, what's their gate revenue gonna look like if the Islanders continue to not make the playoffs? This isn't a true relocation so it's not like the city will be overjoyed to have a team when it never really left. I know a lot of folks will compare this to Winnipeg but A) Winnipeg hadn't had an NHL team for 15 years, B) Winnipeg is nuts for hockey, C) they've sold 13k season tickets for an arena that holds 15k, and D) they've been making hand over fist in merch sales, not to mention that they have a solid organization that the fans trust in.
