I agree on Kaberle, he’s a useless pylon. WTF were they thinking when the got him? I’m not sure Subban is up to the level of Markov (when he’s not injured) and perhaps even Georges, but definitely has that tremendous upside potential. He brings a physicality that Montreal has been lacking for a very long time; just ask Brad marshmallow Marchand.

Stop dumping on Semin. He was a way better teammate than Subban could ever be. Someone commented Subban would/could fight. Yeah, right, we were all very impressed by that turtle act he pulled. Now that was a fight! Subban has potential be a great player, but the guy comes off as a jerk. In all his years in DC I never saw Semin behave like a total jerk.

I can agree with that, I also based my opinion on my team needing defensive D. PK is def worth more due to his offensive upside, he can also turn into a wall when hitting guys… I watched about 70 habs games last year and there were moments he made me jump out of my seat.

I hope that some team gives PK an offer sheet that is unmatchable as he will never achieve his best in Montreal. Let him have the opportunity to get better on a team with a good present and future, unlike the team he is presently on. It’s clear what his current team values – and it’s not the on-ice product, so let him move on for the sake of his own career. Or he can stay and have every 2nd question be – did you learn french yet? He’s logged #1 defenseman minutes and played in every situation. He needs to go somewhere where he can develop and not have to carry the defense and then get low-balled at salary time. Save your career PK and hope for an offer sheet.

Subban has issues though. Theres rumors hes a bit of a problem in the locker room, and the guy takes so many bad penelties its not even funny. That won’t kill his value, but does hurt it a bit.

I could see him making $3 million a season, but not much more then that. I fully expect Del Zotto to make about $4-5 million a year, and hes a far better all around player then Subban… so $3 is in the ballpark for Subban.

We’ll agree to disagree on this one. Georges has the heart of a lion, but for pure talent PK is light years ahead. He scored 14 goals as a rookie. Dropped off a bit last year, but it was a total sh!t show in Mtl last year. Look for a big year for Subban. Hope we get him signed long term.

Honestly, I feel I will be criticized for this but I’d take georges over PK. Love Subban but georges is a shot blocking beast. He is also my favorite guy on the habs… I’d love to to have both but I think PK has more flaws

I think that’s going a bit far.

a.) He’s not a one-dimentional Russian winger, and
b.) A change of venue has worked wonders for players in the past.

Hopefully he moves on from Montreal and regains his focus.

if my teams stunk that badly in a major market, and the fans were knocking my coach, not because of his abilities as a coach, but because he couldn’t speak French – I’d be a pissed off at the world too. In the right environment, this young man will thrive. Let’s he knows this and has no intentions of signing this deal.

Are you kidding??? His “act” has Philly written all over it. The dude chirps at the other team’s forwards constantly, he’s not affraid to drop the gloves, he plays both ends of the ice…he’s the black Scott Hartnell of D-men!

On behalf of all Flyers fans – trust me, he “act” would be welcomed in Philly, especially after the way Jersey took it to us physically in the semis last year.

3.5 a year???

If Matt Carle can pull 5.5 a year with the stats he was able to compile over the last year with a team around him that was lightyears more talented than the Habs, Subban should get at least that much.

He’s way more physical, better in his own zone, offensively he does just as Carle at even strength and plays a stronger point on the man advantage than Carle, and most importantly, he’s 5 years younger. $2.75 a year is a joke. Heck yeah there needs to be an offer sheet for this player – and if there’s not, then I hope he plays out the final year of his deal under his current contract and tests FA. Teams should fight over what he can bring to a blueline as youthful as he is.

Subban is over-rated. I wouldn’t give him a huge contract either. He has incredible potential and he leaves you in awe of his ability sometimes, but that other 25% of the time is what kills a team. He’s the Alexander Semin of defense.

Maybe they are giving him a low deal contract to give him time to better his character. Subban is a pest and an asshole on the ice. He is a good hockey player but his attitude is not going to help his career.

Considering the contracts Suter and Webber recently signed, the Habs should jump at 4 mil over 6-7 years. Not saying he’s at their level yet, but he does have tremendous upside. As it stands now, 2.75 would make him the 4th highest paid D-man behind Markov, Kaberle and Georges. I’d take PK over all three.

Flyers should offer a 5 year/22-25 million dollar deal and give up a 1 and a 3. They would have 5 starting d men under 28.

Just another thought. The contract reportedly offered is within $500,000 in cap hit to Carey Price’s second contract with the Canadiens, and that could be their logic.

Having said that, if I’m Don Meehan I’m making an argument that Subban’s contributions to his team were much more valuable in his contract year than Price’s in his.

So Subban is waiting on Del Zotto to sign to establish a market value for himself? Or maybe Don Meehan is waiting for camp to creep closer to maximize leverage for both clients.

I’m not sure how one agent representing two of three players you note could play a constructive waiting game when their counterpart’s inevitable signing would benefit the second guy. Meehan could playing this game, but the players doing it makes no sense from where I sit.
