Do you have a link for this? Im almost 100% sure I am right here, if crosby would have retired due to injury it would have been a huge cap hit… thats why Savard is not retired right now. He wont play again, but if he retires the bruins are screwed for years.

Not true. The only way a cap hit stays with a team is if the contract starts after the player is 35 years old. Luongo’s contract goes off the books the day he retires. Same with Weber, Parise, Suter, Kovy, DiPietro, Crosby, Richards, Hossa and others long term deal. The only reason Thomas and Prongers cap hit stays with the team is because they fall under the 35+ cause in the current CBA.

Okay, first off luongo in my opinion is all hype and a product of a good defensive system and surrounded by a good team. Bernier kept a low scoring team in games they had no business being in. The guy has PROVEN himself whereas luongo is still cup less and still a replaceable commodity

It doesn’t matter if they are paid after they retire, the cap hit will be there still until the contract expires.. I’m assuming that’s what he meant.

this guy cant get to Luongo’s/ unless he proves his ability for the next 3 streak year as he did last season. cuz thats what Luongo did in last 3yrs(except playoffs)

Good point wakegoalie also the age of the contracted players when there the deals up quick will be 36 luongo will be what like 43? Yes it’s low money but there bogus years you had to pay after the guys likely retired another reason to chalk up.

What a pathetic story…no research done at all.

While you claim his “career stats are modest” at 2.30 GAA and .916 save %, you failed to point out his last three seasons’ stats:

2011-12: 1.95 GAA .929 save %
2010-11: 2.24 GAA .914 save %
2009-10: 2.54 GAA .907 save %

Notice a pattern there? If you had done your homework, you could have made a solid argument that this goalie has developed over the years into such an elite goalie.

Additionally, one of your negative-side arguments talks about two other people and that has nothing to do with Quick at all.

What dismayed me the most is that you didn’t address Quick’s incredible intensity between the goal posts. This guy HATES to lose…so much so he takes it hard if he loses to a family member at a board game at home. To infer that he needs Sutter to kick his azz in order to perform at a high level is absolutely laughable, and ensure my argument that you just didn’t do your homework, Mr. O’Brien.

Quick has an amazing athletic ability and the mental toughness to bounce back from a bad one. Quick is well worth it if he stays healthy. Bernier will eventually be moved, my guess is to nj after brodeur hangs them up

Quick just won the stanley cup and conn smyth, two things luongo doesn’t have. He outplayed luongo in the first round, and hasn’t melted under the pressure of the playoffs numerous times. Luongo was a very good goalie, but right now even most canucks fans would take quick over him

I love how quicks cap hit of 5.8 million is “relatively cheap” yet Luongos cap hit of 5.3 is talked about as if it’s “un-movable” and “so high”
