Video: NHL 13 rolls out big changes for “GM Mode”

Jul 28, 2012, 11:10 PM EST

EA Sports’ NHL series has featured strong online proponents, yet the GM mode lacked a key element: the ability to face off against your friends. (Tricking the computer is so much less fun.)

It looks like NHL 13 will change that in what looks like a pretty substantial way. Check out the significant changes to that mode, as this video preview explains:

Imagine this: making fantasy sports trades and video game GM trades with your friends on your phone while on the toilet wasting time at work. We live in a beautiful world.

Trick the computer in a trade? We’re talking about NHL 12 right? The computer GM’s made Scott Howson’s early Rick Nash demands seem fair in comparison. Not just for stars either, you had to practically give up the farm to trade for a 3rd line forward.

Like I said before, I’d be happy with some sort of happy medium between the embarrassing “force trade” days & the freakin Soup Nazi “No Brandon Prust for you! You not make offers ONE YEAR!” stuff from 12.

I’ve noticed that have had to try make my own “3-way” deals. The Rangers weren’t accepting any of my attempts for Ryan Callahan. But with Semin on a contract year, I was trying to trade him. I was able to get Mike Richards and Justin Williams from the Kings. After playing a few weeks with them I decided to look at a few more changes and figured I might as well try for Callahan again. They accepted Williams and Richards. There was a few mother minor leaguers involved as well. But basically ended up with a 3-team trade.

I wonder if the new GM Mode can be played when crossing systems (xbox – ps3). I know it most likely would have to be same platform but it would be cool to have a bunch of your buddies compete against each other but not everyone uses the same hardware.

EA’s best change was adding players Girth ratings. As a GM, I want to know that my players meet The Soupcan Standard. Can’t wait to buy this game then use the cover to scoop up dog poo around my yard. Stay Thick SCA hates Gingers

What’s the difference between the regular NHL 13 vs the collectors edition and is it worth the extra 40 bucks?

This game better be anatomically correct. If you can’t see Sid’s bulge from overhead cam then they didn’t make it big enough.
