I always hate this argument “It sucks for the fans there”.

It sucks for the not enough fans there. Sucks worse for the more than enough fans in another city who don’t have a team and would support them. If there’s not such a city, then the team should not exist.

I applaud the Coyotes for their success last year, but how can that possibly continue with their potential new owner struggling to raise the cash to complete the purchase of the team? It’s going to be a bigger black eye on the NHL than having a team in Phoenix already is, and depending on the structure of the lease agreement, they may slide back to the bottom of the league in attendance and revenue but not have any plausible way to leave the desert.

The NHL better be making plans to take over ownership of the franchise again in a few years if this deal goes through.

The Coyotes have a great and loyal fan base, but they have some serious issues money-wise and should probably consider doing something like maybe selling the team to someone in a city up north in Canada. Preferably, someone who would be a passionate owner and would have the money and skills to run a team without trouble.

I dont think there was ever any question they would stay in Phoenix this year, scheduling its way too late to move them now. Plus I dont think the NHL really wants to move a team after such a relatively high profile playoff run.

That said, yeah this franchise needs to move. Sucks for the fans there, but it just isnt gonna work.

So while these parasitic clowns are trying to figure things out down there in the land of scorpions and 115 degree temperatures, it just occurred to me that Parise and Suter could very well be the “Knights in Shining Armor” who save the day ! Why don’t these two idiots leverage their new “fake” money and just buy the Coyotes themselves ? … heck, even Bobby Lou could chip in with another 54 million “fake” dollars !

Jamison seems like a pretty bright guy (the team he’s buying notwithstanding). My guess he’s not trying to raise just the purchase price, he’s trying to raise the purchase price plus projected losses.

$20M? If you’re concerned about finding $20M, how do they expect to have the money to cover the team’s losses? Even with what Glendale is kicking in, Jamison’s group could easily be on the hook for $20M in each of the first few seasons. I don’t see how the NHL can approve sale to a group that has such limited financial resources. But this is why a lot of people really have an issue with Bettman and Daly. Want to have a team in a Canadian market? You need huge financial resources and long-term season ticket commitments from fans before the NHL will approve the sale. Want to try and keep a team in Atlanta? You’re on your own. Phoenix? The league will buy the team and run it for years even though no one will buy it and keep it there (remember, the justification for moving from other locations is that ‘no one wants to own a team there anymore’) for years. Don’t need anything indicating greater support from the area to sell out for years to come, or even to pay close to NHL prices. Don’t need a buyer who can actually cover the losses the team will incur. And now they’re getting into a situation where the league may just end up running the team and covering all losses next season. Seems like any one of those situations would have caused relocation in other cities, why are they doing everything possible to stay in Phoenix? If Jamison gets the money together, if he’s worried about $20M, or even $100M, how is this going to be a long-term solution? Even with great intentions to keep the team there, you need to be able to deal with the losses.

It’s called negotiations. If your willing to spend 130 million on a team, and the NHL wants to sell it for 150 million. The logical thing would to meet at 140 million. You’d save 10 million, the NHL who wants to keep them in Phoenix gets them kept there.

Why the hell would the NHL approve an owner who can barely get enough scratch together to buy the team in the 1st place. What’s going to happen here? Just get enough money together to buy the turn and become the 1st to turn a profit in Glendale? You know what? I used to hate Basille, but he is starting to sound like a godsend. Here is an idea NHL, get owners who can afford the team and then some. Get the hell out of the desert (sorry Yotes fans) and congratulate the people of Quebec City, and then tell the folks in Seattle they are on deck if they are serious.

I don’t blame the NHL for hoping to get some of that market in the South East or in the desert. But it just didn’t happen. Of course you go to Atlanta and Phoenix, HUGE markets. But you got to know when to pull up stakes and move on.

Again, Sorry Yotes fans, there just isn’t enough of you willing to spend your money with the NFL, NBA and Baseball as options.

All four major sports in the USA try (and struggle a bit) to put pro sports in the western side of our country (and mid-west, some sports). They put NHL, MLB, NFL, and a NBA team in Las Vegas, there would a lot more fans dedicated to pro sports, west of the Missippissi. Won’t happen, but it would even the playing feild…….
