Anybody wanna justify the thumbs down? There’s no way you can. Explain to me why it took this long to sign him. Why NO other team had offers. Why this is his 3rd consecutive 1 year contract. Why he’s more known for stupid penalties and lack of D than his scoring.

Scotty Bowman disagrees with your PK reasoning. He’s stated that he used guys like Hull specifically because of the threat of short-handed goals they represented. Defensemen had to be more wary on the PP when a sniper was on the ice, than when it was all grinders and PK specialists.

What exactly does stick handling have to do with penalty killing? For me guys like Semin play top 2 lines and PP and 4on4. No PK for these guys it is a waste of their legs, your job is to score goals and produce offense that’s why this is a team sport let the bottom 6 forwards kill the PKs and get into shooting lanes and block shots. You don’t need your 7M dollar man going down with a broken foot because he wanted to play PK against the Blue Jackets in December….

boudreau used to use semin on the PK the season we lost to the canadiens, semin was definitely an above average penalty killer because of his stick handling. then boudreau decided to let the media make his decisions for him.

His flat and lackluster stats are still among the best in the NHL. Even if he’s having an off season he has been a near point per game player and has a tremendous +/- his stats and attitude declined over the last few years as he lost I’ve time and quality in line mates. That like saying that if your wife gets a new job and is out of town 20% of the time you will get less puddin. Then, find out your wife really likes some other guy better, but you think your better than him. What’s that do to your game?

I’ll take him as he is. Even if he doesn’t score a single goal, his +/- will be enough to put the canes over the edge.

This wasn’t his first contract year. Caps have inked him to 2 1-year deals in the past. He’s been on the trading block twice with no bites. Many gear chances for him to prove himself and earn Abigail contract and his effort stayed flat and lackluster. A fresh start will be no different. Good luck Carolina.

What he needs is a Fresh Set of B-A-L-L-S – the guy operates on 1/2 a nut.

That’s why you didn’t see any ‘power teams’ bidding aggressively for his services.

I think as long as he’s consistent he’ll be a great addition and asset to the Canes. If he’s not then he’s just another middle of the pack NHLer like we just saw in the past
