Flyers GM discusses Doan, Voracek

Philadelphia Flyers GM Paul Holmgren said the right things about missing out on Shea Weber, but what’s next for the franchise this summer?

Holmgren focused on two forwards – Shane Doan and Jakub Voracek – when discussing the next steps with Anthony SanFilippo. His comments about Doan represent a familiar refrain:

“I don’t want to put words in Shane’s mouth, but I think first and foremost he would like things to work out in Phoenix,” Holmgren said. “I don’t believe he is going to do anything until he has some answers in his mind as to what is happening there. I think he is a very loyal guy. He is loyal to Don Maloney, and the Phoenix franchise. I give him kudos for that.”

Holmgren’s take on signing Doan seems pretty pessimistic, but he appears to have an opposite view on bringing back Voracek.

In fact, Voracek might just fill a first-line role.

“We’re obviously trying to get Jakub signed, and it’s only a matter of time,” Holmgren said. “We envision Jake playing with Claude [Giroux] next year so, that’s the way we look at it, so I don’t see that as a big hole.”

Well, he was called “Baby Jagr” at one point …

Still feels like a kick to the nads my Flyers didn’t get Weber.

    • jpelle82 - Jul 26, 2012 at 9:19 AM

you’re a fool for having any kind of hope in it. even if he came you would have been screwed for years in the draft, the price was high, not only in the money to weber but the cost to the flyers organization as a whole. i think holmgren was doing what he always has done, and i dont fault him for it. in my opinion if you’re sitting still you’re moving backwards and homgren has that mentality in the off season, you gotta take those shots as a GM. it might have all been for the best in the end. flyers are the 15th oldest team in the league i read yesterday, losing 4 1st round picks doesnt help you get younger

      • liamj55 - Jul 26, 2012 at 10:03 AM

I am not a fool in having any hope in it. With the bonuses in that contract Weber would make all the revenue generated in their ticket revenue from last year. The Flyers are the 15th oldest team?? If you take Timonen (FA next year), Betts, Pronger and Lilja out of the equation their avg age comes out to 25.9. Come on man use that thing between your ears. 4 # 1 picks for a player that would fit perfectly with his style and ability? PRICELESS.

      • jpelle82 - Jul 26, 2012 at 1:00 PM

when the flyers are in the basement of the east next couple years, those 1st round picks will come in handy when they need d and goaltending. it was never a real possibility, thats the foolish part – there was no way nashville was not gonna match it. holmgren just ensured that no one but nashville would be getting weber until he is 40 yrs old

      • erh1218 - Jul 26, 2012 at 12:23 AM

This guy isn’t a pens fan. He’s just creating a bunch of screen names to mock overzealous pitt fans and make them look even worse.

      • erh1218 - Jul 26, 2012 at 12:23 AM

So it’s probably best not to argue with him.

      • mweist11 - Jul 26, 2012 at 2:53 AM

Weber signed a 14 year offer sheet to come here, but I guess your right, no one wants to come here.

  3. sanduskysextapes - Jul 25, 2012 at 7:50 PM

Shocking! Filthys GM talking about “a big hole.”. The same words describe that entire city. If this so called baby jagr has half a brain he would get out too.

    • mweist11 - Jul 26, 2012 at 2:55 AM

Big hole, sounds like your mom

and the only reason they had a chance to win is the nhl stepping in and saving your franchise, funny how that never happens in real markets

      • jpelle82 - Jul 26, 2012 at 1:07 PM

nope never happens in real markets… just ask Fannie, Freddie, General Motors, AIG, and Goldman Sachs

  5. phillyphan83 - Jul 25, 2012 at 8:00 PM

earlc10000screennames still sounds bitter over a first round exit. sounds like its been a loooonngg offseason for ya. :-) you must feel real’confidemt replacing staal, michalek, and Sullivan with a bunch of scrubs. As for no one was to come to Philly…Weber signed you moron. Nashville matched which says absolutely nothing about Webers intentions of coming to Philly, his signing the offer sheet says everything. Nice try onemansoupcanarmywith10000screenames

    • bobhpine - Jul 26, 2012 at 10:33 AM

Flyers season was about ten days longer than the pens’

The real wait is 37 years… How do you do it?

  6. earlcpeacock - Jul 25, 2012 at 8:10 PM

lol yea the “offer sheet” really had you philthy fans hopeful to get a D man who doesnt suck. its not like the franchise scored 40 goals on you in the first round of the playoffs… oh wait yes we did, cus your goalie is god awful and so is your entire defensive unit. maybe shenn will be the missing link in that horrible mess of a defense but it sounds like you just got another turd in the toilet bowl.

    • flyers23 - Jul 25, 2012 at 11:34 PM

Lol if you’re saying how bad bryz was, what the hell does that make Fleury?

      • erh1218 - Jul 26, 2012 at 12:26 AM

Sorry to repeat myself from the above post, but this guy isn’t a pens fan he’s just doing this to mock the ones that are over the top. I wouldn’t bother arguing with him.

    • scaarepittschamberofcommerce - Jul 26, 2012 at 2:39 AM

Surely you didn’t just use your first round of last years playoffs in an argument… Probably the dumbest thing I’ve heard all day.

  7. earlcpeacock - Jul 25, 2012 at 8:20 PM

the day anyone from the city of champions takes orders from the low class rat hole smog filled fart crusted philthadelphians is the day i turn my back on soup can sids bloated meaty pork loin. CANT BE STOPPED. MVP OF 09 – DANIEL CARCILLO

    • mweist11 - Jul 26, 2012 at 2:58 AM

      yuck. You’re weird

  8. sanduskysextapes - Jul 25, 2012 at 8:39 PM

Don’t be mad at The Soupcan Army. It’s not our fault Weber used your hack GM for leverage. Why do you think no other teams offered? Filthy was the only team dumb enough. I’ve known whores that got used less.

    • mweist11 - Jul 26, 2012 at 3:00 AM

      Like your names siter

      • mweist11 - Jul 26, 2012 at 3:01 AM

  9. slammed81 - Jul 25, 2012 at 9:16 PM

morons …used our gm for leverage lol maybe but he just cash strapped his team for 4 years by signin it so did he really help nashville will see but i dont see them as a cup contender…and ur knowledge of philly is suspect as well do us a favor and go troll somewhere else …disgrace of a login name should be banned

As disgusting and down right wrong as this little back and forth has been between you 2, that is one of the funniest things I’ve heard in a long time. I know of people getting AIDS and Herpes and things like that from having sex, but this is the first I’ve heard anyone getting haucruxed from it.

  11. suepeacock - Jul 25, 2012 at 9:45 PM

Remember last time Philly won the cup? Yeah me neither … I was dead/notalive.

I noticed that all the bad things in the news about pitty they try to pin on philly, smog, filthy, lol they cant even come up with anything that actually pertains to philly. stay classy pitty. soup can dood drive to keep penguins in pitty when they go bankrupt. Again….

  14. broadstbully33 - Jul 25, 2012 at 11:06 PM

you were dead in 1975? lol

    • govtminion - Jul 26, 2012 at 1:10 AM

    Trolling: You’re doing it wrong!

  16. sanduskysextapes - Jul 26, 2012 at 9:04 AM

Funny how you are dumb enough to think the SCA is only one person. The Soupcan armys member list is longer than SidS massive unit. The Army is getting thicker by the minute.
