Shane Doan is getting his ducks in a row should prospective Coyotes owner Greg Jamison fail to close on his intended purchase.

The Phoenix Business Journal is reporting Doan has given Jamison until Friday “to see if he can make some more progress or get close to finalizing the sale.”

Doan has already visited with the Rangers and Flyers, and there could be meetings with other suitors in the near future.

His agent, Terry Bross, tells USA Today the visits to other teams are intended to put a Plan B into place should Jamison fail to provide any assurances.

“When we get the news [about the Coyotes], whether it’s good or bad, at least we’ll be prepared,” Bross said. “Otherwise we’ll have to take a week to make a decision. If we find out it doesn’t happen, then we’re behind the eight-ball trying to go visit teams and make a decision. Let’s get them out of the way now.”

    • sheckyrimshot - Jul 24, 2012 at 11:40 AM

if you’re so confident in your beloved soup can army why have you been begging every free agent on the market to come to pittsburgh?

      • barkar942 - Jul 24, 2012 at 12:44 PM

Because he knows they will need someone to fill Cindy’s roster spot when he is out for most of the season with headaches.

    • atwatercrushesokoye - Jul 24, 2012 at 5:05 PM

In 7 seasons Crosby has one cup, he’s won one Art Ross, one Hart trophy and one Richard trophy, Cindy needs other players more than they need Cindy.

Yeah I’m a penguins fans and I neither get or an amused by the soup can thing. Love to see Doan in Pittsburgh but he belongs in the desert.

      He belongs in a museum!

      • mclovinhockey - Jul 24, 2012 at 12:13 PM

        he is 35….

    • napoleonblownapart6887 - Jul 24, 2012 at 12:48 PM

Agreed, I would love to see some of the Crosby-Guerin magic revisited. Great locker room presence. Hard pressed to see him leave Phoenix though.

Sid = whinnying, over rated, injured, crybaby.

    • atwatercrushesokoye - Jul 24, 2012 at 5:11 PM

7 seasons, 1 cup, 1 Hart trophy, 1 Art Ross trophy, 1 Richard trophy…how’s that stack up against Gretzky 7 years in? Since people love to proclaim him as Gretzky 2 he’s most definitely overrated. Right now Crosby is comparable to Joe Sakic…not a bad player by any means but he’s nowhere near Gretzky.

Just enough time for the Flyers to get Weber and make some cap room moves to lock Doan up.

  6. bildomatic - Jul 24, 2012 at 11:58 AM

With the Rangers adding Nash, assuming Philly keeps Weber, and the possibility of Doan going to Penguins, the poor New Jersey Devils are in serious serious trouble…

  7. pone27 - Jul 24, 2012 at 12:11 PM

I chuckled when I read this actually..

Doan, you are a great hockey player, and will be a tremendous asset to any team you go to, but come on dude, you’re now giving a possible owner a deadline on when to spend HUNDREDS of millions of dollars to buy a pro NHL team?

I understand that you want to be back in Phoenix badly, but sorry, he will be the one cutting yours (should you return to PHX), and a lot of other players checks. He has a tremendous decision to make, don’t be greedy and make a deadline for him, thats not your job.

If you were smart, you would have been meeting with all the teams you want to go to already so you are prepared for a situation like this.

    • lostpuppysyndrome - Jul 24, 2012 at 2:03 PM

Yeah, the whole ultimatum thing rarely works out well. I suppose if Jamison really values Doan’s presence he’ll speed things up a bit but it might also be out of Jamison’s hands. I’ll leave this situation to the only people who know anything about it though. I just keep hoping they end up in Quebec.

Interesting. Nashville hasn’t talked to Weber since he signed the offer sheet

  11. schaffershokai - Jul 24, 2012 at 8:39 PM

He might have to start looking into a new gig:

  12. cosmoandmelovepens - Jul 24, 2012 at 10:23 PM

I am a pens fan and I can agree that Crosby is not as good as gretsky but I do know that he is one of the best players in the league easily top 3

  13. cosmoandmelovepens - Jul 24, 2012 at 10:24 PM

Probably the best. But I’ll see that this year.

  14. mattmc20 - Jul 25, 2012 at 7:44 AM

Doan is going to the pens just like Suter and Praise were. I’m sick of these stories about east coast teams on hockeytalk. I got away from ESPN for this reason and you aren’t much better. Doan told Detroit he was visiting the D, where is that article? If anyone hints they have a connection with the north east = story, anywhere else? Nothing.
