Video: Columbus head coach “really excited” about Nash trade

Jul 23, 2012, 8:40 PM EDT

Much of the reactions to the Columbus Blue Jackets’ decision to trade Rick Nash revolved around GM Scott Howson’s work, but what about the guy who has to coach them next season? (Formerly interim) head coach Todd Richards acknowledges the loss of Nash, yet he also claims that the team added size and versatility in the exchange.

He even claims that he’s “really excited” about the deal.

Here’s Richards’ short interview with Blue Jackets TV:

Blue Jackets receive “four question marks” for Nash

What they’re saying about the trade

Nash calls New York a “great fit”

Rangers “consistently showed most interest” in Nash

Howson targeted two “NHL-ready forwards” in trade talks

Oh jeez, I forgot Columbus was coached by Richards…see Minnesota Wild: Seasons 10 + 11. It’s pretty funny if you’re into dark humor.

    • lordfletcher - Jul 23, 2012 at 11:28 PM

he actually did a good job last season coming in to a terrible team and even worse situation… I wish him the best of luck because he clearly is fighting a monster made entirely of poop (cough / Howson / cough)

but yeah, he didn’t do well with the Wild but were we far from a strong team then and he was a rookie over his head in questions.

usually the second time around for coaches is much better.

“I picture having them both out there almost filling the hole left by Nash. We’ll see whether we’re able to get the ‘CBJ gets 4 forwards’ rule thru under the new CBA. Apprently the competition committee is pushing for the exception – pointing out we’re the only franchise subject to the Howson effect”

According to his wife he gets excited easily.

  4. mclovinhockey - Jul 23, 2012 at 9:25 PM

Woo we dumped the face of our franchise for half of what we could have got from other teams

I thought the idea was to rebuild, this trade is an attempt to save jobs by not rebuilding and claiming progress. Howson has done the franchise a disservice by not getting a solid young player with upside or multiple draft picks. Selfish stupid man Howson is, can’t wait to see him out of the league.

    • ThatGuy - Jul 24, 2012 at 11:52 AM

How is Tim Erixon not a solid young player with upside?

You still need a franchise with some experience when you rebuild. It does no one any good to run 23 rookies out there every game.

      • theawesomersfranchise - Jul 24, 2012 at 12:37 PM

LOL, Come on man, Keider is an solid young guy with upside. Erixon is a B prospect that is a 3rd line pairing at best.

      • theawesomersfranchise - Jul 24, 2012 at 12:38 PM

And Nash isn’t the one you trade to get that experience, you use him for the heavy lifting in a rebuild, but that ship has sailed.

“Really excited” = “I can’t actually use the words I want to use for this without getting a fine from the NHL, so I’ll just lie and act happy before I go sit in my office with my Scott Howson voodoo doll.”

  7. lordfletcher - Jul 23, 2012 at 11:24 PM

Dear Mr. Richards… save all of the money you will make with this franchise because they will ruin your career like Howson does with everyone else. Hopefully after you have made a couple million dollars, you can retire and then really tell us how you felt about this trade. I am guessing you will need to buy a new pillow tomorrow morning as you will be SHOUTING threw the current bed spread!

best of luck, and I mean that. Wishing you the best

Worst Flyer fan on this blog said what? The poster that lives and breathes the Philly stereotype just excused Fletcher of being a bangwagoner? The Flyer fan I usually am referring to when I say that far too many Flyer fans a clueless homers said what?

What is it in Pennsylvania? Is there a bubble surrounding the state? Your only source of info coming from within? Forced to listen to talk radio constantly or something? Pens fans, Flyer fans, Penn St Apologists. Why are so many of you just so dense?

if you really think I “popped” up in July than you jsut simply never noticed my posts from the last, oh…. year or so? When did this site start? I can’t remember when NBC started their “sports talk” but whenever they bought out Florio’s PFT they created all the other sports blog sites. It was only a month or couple – few months after then did I start posting here. I would say I was one of the first posters but went under a different handle. I believe it was GBISfullofcottagecheesefatties. Not really appropriate for a hockey blog name. It was my handle from 6 years ago bashing Green Bay packer fans once PFT banished all of my other 10 names from trolling too many times. I would guess I made the switch to LordFletcher around 6 months ago.

      Thanks for your concern :)

        I find this funny

For the record, Mojo and Lord are who I think of when considering who are the best commenter’s here, even though Mojo is a softie. While Broad you would be one of the worst.
