Conspiracy theory:
Poile and Holmgren being frequent trade partners worked this out themselves. Nashville knowing they are havin hard tim signing and if they flat out trade him, they look bad to the fans. Homey swoops in offers a ridiculous contract. Poile steps to the podium and says we love Shea Weber but we cannot match the Flyers offer because it would leave the franchise broke. Nashville takes four ones or the predetermined trade. Fans aren’t in complete uproar, everyone comes out clean.

I actually think we owe Philly a big “THANK YOU”. They did the heavy lifting and we just come along and match. We don’t need any offers. I’m sure Poile would listen, but it would take more than any likely offer you mentioned to keep us from having what we wanted all along….Weber tied up long term. Thus, we kept the best 2 of our big 3 and we have the ability to look for a scorer to supplement the 9th best scoring team a year ago.

Suter is a large loss… no doubt. Toots… not so much. Fan fav, but overpaid and ridiculously inconsistent. We haven’t improved elsewhere yet. I’m betting we match and retain Weber, move Josi up to play w/ Weber, sign a vet dman for 2nd pairing to play w/ Klein. We do expect a huge upside from Ryan Ellis and he will now get his chance. Jon Blum has a chance to re-emerge as well as Eckholm. We still need a true scorer, but were 9th in the league scoring last year before the ill advised AK46 and Rads experiment. It’s not the “rebuild” many seem to believe if they just took the time to look. Now… if we don’t match for Weber we definately take a large step back unless some trade of significance goes along with the pass to match.

Preds ain’t getting Coutz or Schenn guaranteed. Pred fans can dream, but the reality is Vorachek, Mez and maybe MAB and a pick or something along those lines. The pressure is on Poile, not Homer. So if they can’t sign Shea than you’re getting whatever Homer offers, which isn’t bad players by any means. I’d take Vorachek any day on my team as a top six winger, he’s got a ton of upside on the right line. Mez is a nice defender the healthier he gets again. MAB is a young decent defenseman in the makings. Plus whatever else pick wise wouldn’t be bad on top of them players. I’d love to have a stud D man like Shea, but not for Coutz or Schenn, our future with G.

They havent improved anywhere, but if they keep Weber they are still a playoff team if they stay healthy and one or two of their young guys step up.

If they lose Weber and just get the picks back, I dont see how they have enough talent to still be a top 8 team in the West. If they swing a trade Courtier or Schenn or Voracek or whomever than I could see them being able to still sneak in with a bottom 3 seed.

Even if Weber is back, they have less talent on the team than last season. From Suter to Tootoo, these players were valuable to the team, now they have gone elsewhere. At what positions have the Preds improved this offseason?
