Under the luxury tax system in MLB a few years back, The Yankee’s had a payroll of 287 million dollars and the Pirates had a pay roll of 38 million.

You never hear anyone bragging about parity in baseball.

I don’t like the idea. I wouldn’t buy a jersey with an ad on it. That said, I understand why teams are interested in that as a source of revenue.

NO, no ads on jerseys. THE NHL IS NOT A EUROPEAN LEAGUE, if you watch the SEL or KHL(with all due respect to the skill level) you cant even get an idea of what the over all logo and jersey scheme is supposed to look like because of all the neon logos that are pasted all over the jerseys. This is the nhl we’re talking about, keep it simple, keep it nice, keep it classy.

I don’t care what they wear. I just want to watch good hockey. Can you blame some teams wanting ads ? Maybe then some of the smaller markets could afford UFAs.

I was simply responding to the one who said “If they put ads on the jerseys like they do in racing, I’ll be reconsidering whether I want to watch the NHL.”
They already have ads on it so stop watching.

1) Reebok is simple and innocuous – the chosen as league ‘apparel’ provider – totally appropriate
2) The symbol on the chest = we in sports call that the TEAM logo

Not even REMOTELY the same thing they’re talking about.

Soon – they’ll have NBA jersey’s looking like a Nascar event with stickers covering every inch.

Yeah, but it isn’t thrown in peoples faces like ads emblazoned on jerseys would. It doesn’t deface the jersey that people see.

If they put ads on the jerseys like they do in racing, I’ll be reconsidering whether I want to watch the NHL.

It would be hard to imagine the NHL doing this. It has just always seemed to me how jerseys and team logos define a team more in hockey than it does in other sports. Football just has names and numbers. Baseball and basketball it’s names and numbers with a fairly simple logo, name of team, city etc.

NBA Jersey Ad deal is pathetic. Talk about shamelessly trying to wring out every last penny.

Soon they’ll have the ‘Dorito’s Foul Shot Moment’ , the ‘Geico In-Bound Pass’, and the ‘Extenze 3-Pointer’.

Let’s hope NHL and NFL don’t follow that money grubbing example.
