John Gambadoro reports that Shane Doan made his “first official visit of free agency” when he checked in with the New York Rangers today.

The Rangers’ interest in Doan was revealed weeks ago, which is noteworthy even if Doan has repeatedly stated his preference to stay with the Phoenix Coyotes. Before the Coyotes get too nervous and Rangers fans get too excited, it’s important to note that Doan was also in New York for the latest round of CBA discussions.

Pat Leonard reports that Doan said he wants to make the decision as soon as he can and that Doan “didn’t rule the Rangers out.” Leonard also points out some areas of familiarity between the power forward and the Rangers’ staff.

Doan has relationships up and down the Rangers coaching staff: Assistant GM/assistant coach Jim Schoenfeld was Doan’s head coach for two seasons in Phoenix. John Tortorella was the assistant those two seasons in 1997-98 and 1998-99. Goaltending coach Benoit Allaire was an assistant for seven years in Phoenix, and assistant coach Mike Sullivan played as Doan’s teammate from 1998 through 2002.

Doan’s agent says he hopes things work out with the Coyotes.

This process could take weeks.

Red Wings are reportedly “waiting on” Doan.

The Penguins made an offer, too.

I think whichever team you’re talking about doesn’t really care what age a player is as long as he can play.

In fact most teams would offer 53 year old daryl sutter a contract for a year if he wasn’t coaching the kings.

        Bad comeback scoregoals

    Wasn’t a comeback……just a fact.

At least 20 goals and 50 points a year will make any team consider adding a player to their roster

      Except Semin apparently.

Hope he stops in Buffalo for a visit. Need a player like him not only as an offensive and defensive weapon but a great team leader too.

He does not have the time for a rebuild. That fanchise does not need him to put fans in the stands.

Doan has stated repeatedly how much he hated playing in the city of Winnipeg. Obviously, location is a factor for many athletes (i.e. Miami, Los Angeles, etc). Who wants to play on a sh***y team in small town Canada? Not many athletes obviously.
That and he doesn’t want to uproot his family so for all the east coast fans spouting off on your teams chances, listen to Doan’s comments. He has repeatedly said he doesn’t want to uproot his family. So Dallas, Colorado, Los Angeles, San Jose, Anaheim…they have a fighting chance. Which is more than Winnipeg has of having a winning record…lmao!!!! GO SABRES!!!!
