Actually the preds have to let him walk. He is publicly stated that he’s ready to move on from them and if they match, then this will simply become another Rick Nash. The preds would have to wait a full year to trade him in which during that time they would’ve paid 26 mil, had an unhappy player (team captain for that matter) playing for a full season on a team that everyone knows cannot compete this year. At this point, best option for nashville is to negotiate a trade with the flyers, at least get something they want in return and start to rebuild, because if they do match this offer, it will be a PR nightmare. Philly knows best, you don’t keep a player on your team who doesn’t want to be there (see Terrell Owens).

no doubt about it, im a flyers fan but i know that the preds wont let him get away. every team would take weber for that contract

No matter what, when you look at the franchise itself, the Preds have to hold on to their captain. Pekka is phenomenal, but he can’t do it himself. They already lost Suter, they can’t afford to lose Weber.

A little note for JR: it’s not a 35+ deal, so if Weber does retire before the end of the deal, the cap hit goes away.
