I understand where you are coming from in looking at our future payroll and yes, there is room... but when you factor in the likes of having to re-sign some of those players leaving (Backstom most likely gone, but if he puts up an all star like year, Fletcher will re-sign him for another 2 years) .... (PMB - I would love to have him gone, but if he has a great year with Granlund, they will re-sign him too, on a discount from his current salary) ... (Heatley, two years still left on his dea, but I can see him ended his career in MN, while taking a huge paycut) ..... but if you factor in that, with the likes of Parrish's deal expiring and Barker, Cullen, others... yes, we will have money, but I bet you that Fletcher wants to leave around 12-15million in cap space for when we need to resign some of the following ... Zuker / Bulmer / Granlund / Brodin / Scandella / Spurgeon / Setoguchi / other prospects 4 years away too... There is money on the table for Weber, but we can't afford another max contract for 13 years. IMO. I could easily be wrong, and would love to have Weber, but we won't trade for him this year, so that puts us having to wait out till next season... and then with the new CBA, who knows what the max deal we can give at the time, but someone else would outbid us....

Would love to have Weber, but its not realistic...

Cheers :)

"Was mentioning you’ve played against Martin supposed to impress me? Sooooo putting on skates with a guy automatically makes a person GM material? Yeaaaaa that’s probably how Howson got his job."

Me playing against Martin 10 years ago wasn't intended to be anything more than that, just what I said. Nothing more, nothing less, far from bragging. I have a ton of respect for the MN native but he is long gone as a huge trade asset...

several teams can match "your offer" and or any offer you think Pitts might give. that is a fact.

Pitts does not have the most top prospects compared to other organizations but yes, they could make a very competitive offer if they chose to do so. Would Poile just want D prospects in return, very doubtful, so as of now, Pitts would be on the outside looking in... IMO.

I am done, agree to disagree.....

Honestly I don’t have time to play video games. I just finished cutting the grass before it got dark and in a few minutes family stuff takes priority again with the kids.

This know it all persona you’re trying to give off is very entertaining though. However seeing as how you’re posting on here as well, I can still also laugh at your "good day sir" phrase

Was mentioning you've played against Martin supposed to impress me? Sooooo putting on skates with a guy automatically makes a person GM material? Yeaaaaa that’s probably how Howson got his job. The Market dictates what you can sell something for, not one’s personal belief. Staying firm on an asking price doesn’t make Howson right or a good GM it’s makes him a moron for continuing to think people are going to acquiesce to his demands.

Trying to compare what is being asked for Nash or even Bobby Ryan to what Poile could do if he can’t sign Weber seems much more clownish then anything I stated.

The bottom line is that Poile needs D men and the Penguins have a ton of prospects to go along with Martin. If you don’t like Kennedy that’s awesome I’ll keep him. He’ll be an upgrade over any winger Brandon Sutter had in Carolina.

But if all we’re talking about is adding Olli Matta to Martin, Despres, and a first round pick why don’t we throw in Alex Grant and Robert Bortuzzo. In fact they can still have Dereck Engallend if they’d like. Because at this point we’re offering Two NHL players, one guy who is a stud prospect, and THREE other prospects along with a first round pick. No other team can equal that.

ugh!

Howson is asking a lot for Nash because he can, Nash is an ELITE player and in no way should he settle for a deal he doesn't like. Is Howson a great GM, no, not even close, but he is doing the right thing with Nash. Nash is limiting his value with his NTC in which teams he is willing to be traded to, thus bringing down his trade value for Howson, whom is being smart staying firm on the asking price.... the price for Nash isn't that much of an over payment, Howson is doing what any GM would do, set the bar high and then see what comes in.

Despres is a prospect. Nothing more till he proves otherwise, stats mean jack $hit when they are not earned in the NHL but yes he had impressive numbers with an ELITE level club in Saint John and did well in the AHL last year... time will tell if he pans out. I am sure most Gm's would love to have him in their cupboards

Engallend, meh. nothing to trade Weber for

Kennedy... if, "if". LOL. Meh, again nothing to trade Weber for.

Martin, now 31'ish and making good money. He is a very talented defenseman whom I've played against. Nothing bad to say about him but the fact that Pitts couldn't trade him before the deadline says a lot

Your last comment I can only laugh at. When did I mentioned anything in reference to late 1st round picks not meaning "chicken$#!%" ... your stupid trade purposal with a late 1st round pick is a chicken$#!% deal.

move on clown, you clearly play NHL 12 GM mode too much.

Weber is a franchise player, you need to sell the farm to get him, not Martin / prospect / draft pick.

good day sir'

fletcher was the "good day sir" supposed to make you sound english?.....

You can't compare what Howson wants for nash to what Poile would want for weber. The Blue Jackets haven't seen the playoffs other than once in Nash's 9 seasons and Howson is asking for more than any GM is willing to pay because if he doesn't the jackets are doomed.

Despres is alot more than a prospect. At 20 years old he already has NHL experience, he has played in all situations through juniors, has pedigree as a former first round pick and slected as the best d-man in the QMJHL in 2010-11 and represented team canada at the world juniors that same year. And at 6'4" 215 he's a manchild.

Engallend is a bargain of a d-man who is willing to drop the gloves, hits like a freight train and can move the puck.

And if Kennedy accuracy improved he'd score 30 goals. It's just not in the pens interests to wait for his accuracy to improve anymore. But he is excellent two way forward.

Martin besides being a top four d-man comes with three years left on his deal and adds 5 million to the lowest cap team in the NHL currently

And would you like me to rattle off a dozen names that were taken in the lower part of the first round who were studs...soooooo first round picks aren't exactly chicken$#!%

"love to see your reaction if a trade SIMILAR to that happened involving the pens"

so in otherwords. If a trade happens for Weber with Pitts, you are going to be automatically right on your prediction???

If a trade for Weber occurs with Pitts, you must be ready to trade a big time important player, or a crap load of prospects. Look at your trade offer compared to what Columbus wants for Nash. Would you take that deal? Now understand that Weber is a bigger fish in the sea than Nash, not by much, but he is.

Your trade makes no sense. Martin is the best piece of your offer and no GM was willing to trade for him before the draft.

you would have to throw in Neal (proven top player) or some crazy pool of prospects, such as Pouliot / Maatta / more draft picks and so on, otherwise, throw an offer sheet at Poile.

Good day sir.

Actually Poile was one of the GM's that tried to sign Martin two years ago and almost traded for him at the draft. Hence why Poile and Shero had multiple discussions that day.

your ignorance is boundless. You can claim all you want about being a STH or watching all Preds games, but seriously you have 100% no clue in what you are watching. You fit the southern mold.

You enjoy watching the sport, but never played and most certainly can't figure out positionally what is taking place.

both of these posts are hilarious. For one, MN can't afford Weber with Koivu / Suter / Parise (I am well aware of their cap hit now, next year, and the year after.. it can't happen) ... and to say Suter is or was living in Weber's shaddow is even dumber. Both players compliment each other greatly.

Suter is a very skilled puck moving defenseman, which any GM would love to have

Actually what Nashville hs very little of right now is d-men and two of the four they have under contract are on entry level deals so they only have 2 d-men with nhl experience.

The pens could offer:
Martin - 27 points and +9 in 73 games in 11-12 (5 million)
Engalland - 17 points and +10 in 73 games 11-12 (566,000)
Despres - (2009 first rounder) 4 points and +5 in 18 games 11-12
Tyler kennedy - 33 points and +10 in 60 games in 11-12 (2 million)
and their 2013 first round pick

That's not only gives Nashville three defensemen with NHL experience but a former first rounder who is 6'4" 215 and still only 20 years old. Plus it tacks over 8 million onto their cap bringing them closer to the cap floor and gives them a 26 year old that put up 20 goals a year ago.
