If some team did offer him a 4 yr/30 mil contract and he still signs back with Phoenix for a lot less then I can see why all these teams are after him because he is a stand up guy…not much of that in sports nowadays on both sides it’s all greed. If he decides to leave he is more then welcomed in sunny Buffalo.

Although it appears Shane Doan is happy in Phoenix and will probably re-sign, I would love to have him in Ranger Blue.

Doan was the last 1st round pick of the old Jets, and he played 1 year in the ‘peg. So its not misleading to say Doan has only known the Coyote franchise. Maybe franchise was the wrong term to use, but its clear, if the rumor is true that Doan will resign in the desert, that he remains loyal to the only NHL he has ever known. And in this day and age of professional sports players being loyal to the team that drafted/developed them doesn’t happen to often. Its very refreshing.

It’s a little misleading to suggest Doan is motivated to remain a Coyote because “Phoenix is the only franchise he’s played for”. Doan’s career began in Winnipeg, but it’s obvious he likes the Phoenix area, which is the most important factor. Had the original Jets relocated to Kansas City, and Doan didn’t like KC, he would have cared less about staying with the original franchise.

Sports franchises aren’t like McDonald franchises which are virtually identical across the country. Once a team relocates, everything changes, including the opportunity to make history in the new city. The vast majority of Coyote fans aren’t educated about the original Jets, nor should they be expected to have that knowledge, since that history was made and shared with Winnipeg, not Phoenix.

To be honest, I feel there is a better chance of a lockout than Doan signing with a new team.

Not a bad guess, since there is a 90% chance the coyotes won’t be leaving because Harry buttmen has no idea what he is doing and is almost forcing them to keep a team.
