The new arena is supposed to go to the north part of downtown, north of the Greyhound terminal if you’re familiar with Edmonton.

But as for the City pretending to try and cut costs, they have to make a “good faith” effort that they really really tried really hard until they ran into unforeseen costs and expenses that weren’t in the planning, so they did everything humanly possible to keep costs as low as possible. They fought for Edmontonians and improving the downtown core so that one of the richest men in Canada could be handed a brand-new arena in downtown Edmonton for less than 20% of the over-all costs, because really, it’s in all of our interests.

I’m only p.o’ed because almost anyone could run a successful business if they got 80-90% of construction costs handed to them.

Pretty much, I’m guessing the financial blueprint will be used by the Flames ownership, and the Stampede has a bunch of land down near the dome where they can build the new one. Is the new Oilers arena still supposed to be at the City Centre Airport location?

Projects like this work because they are huge and excessive. It’s go big or go home. Once you start cutting back the purpose of something like this is lost. Seriously, what’s an extra 35 million? Seems like a lot but in the grand scheme of things it’s really a drop in the bucket
