Now I’m sure some of the apologists (here on PHT) will defend the GM by saying (as he’s a lawyer – must have been a really crappy one) he kept that in mind when gauging the necessary return for Nash – must be why he took a playoff team to that elusive 30th position.

Oh wait, “the players decide”, “it’s in the room”, “the players will determine whether our fortunes improve” “I believe in these guys” – note, NEVER blame accepted by him for HIS mess.

And while these teams are stacked with talent they don’t want to give up too much. Nash already refused a trade to Ottawa. He might have turned down a move to LA before last years deadline. The Kings then took Carter off Howson’s hands. This would be the time when a good GM goes to the player and asks him to be patient. Nash still has a contract with Columbus. A big one. He’s still getting his money.

Either they are putting themselves in a bad cap situation by taking on his contract, or if they’re in great cap shape, they would be better off waiting until there is more of a seller’s market following the cap reduction.
