PHT’s Morning Skate takes a look around the world of hockey to see what’s happening and what we’ll be talking about around the NHL world and beyond.

I’d argue that the Colorado Avalanche have had a pretty fantastic off-season, but that doesn’t necessarily make it perfect. Adrian Dater argues that they might regret letting Peter Mueller go – much like they did with Tomas Fleischmann. (All Things Avs)

Interesting bit via Pension Plan Puppets: Science Daily reveals that checking early doesn’t limit injuries. Wait, so you mean getting hit more often for a longer period of time means you get hurt more? Weird. (Science Daily)

Roberto Luongo earned almost $20K at the World Series of Poker. Glad to hear the guy might be able to make ends meet. (QMI Agency)

Jaden Schwartz hopes to shake off worries about his size. (STLtoday.com)

The Chicago Blackhawks can testify that the trade market is pretty quiet. (CSNChicago.com)

Apparently Viktor Stalberg was in a car accident. Good news is that he seems OK. (Chicago Sun Times)

Not too surprising: the ice in Montreal receives rave reviews. Somewhat surprising? So did the Wells Fargo Center’s surface in Philly. Perhaps that helps them play such aggressive offense? (Broad Street Bully)

Hooray! I’m not the only one who’s trumpeting puck possession systems over the dump and chase. (NHL Numbers)

Maybe that’s why Philly and Montreal have the highest winning percentage of all time…just kidding it has nothing to do with it.

Not sure what’s so special about the Avs’ offseason to date. Zanon is an OK D who’s past his prime. PA is a nice player whose stats were padded by playing alongside JT. He won’t replicate his Islander stats w/ COL & anything gained by signing him will be offset by letting Mueller go.
