You should probably stick to commenting on topics you have actual facts on. Detroit was listed as the city with the 6th fastest growing economy in the U.S. They put a lot of focus, and pride, in the downtown area, and it stacks up well-via events, accessability, and entertainment options- with a majority of cities of similar size. Ken Holland, in a survey of sports executives, further, was rated as one of the best, if not the best, GM in any sport. This town has never actually attracted a big name free agent, and they have won their 4 Stanley Cups in the last 12 or so years with a combination of talent drafted and squirrelled away in their system until the players are ready. A hockey forum isn't the venue to slam a city you know nothing about, and you obviously have precious few facts about how the winningest franchise in the NHL over the last 20 years operates.

@johnguelff

settle down... he was speaking more truths than fiction but was a bit harsh. Let's be honest about it. Detroit (as a whole) isn't what I would consider a prized community to live in. Sure, every major city has a few Suburbs to live in and that are financially wealthy but not everyone wants to look at a city based upon 3 communities to live in.

Detroit has been hit hard by the recession, it's obvious and unfortunately the Red Wings don't have the appeal they once did.

also, that stadium needs to be built sooner than later. People are people, and we all like new flashy / luxurious things. A new arena will help!!!!

downtown is beautiful, there will be a new arena in the next 4-5 years, if not sooner, every single game sold out last year, check the attendance before you spout your obvious hate filled nonsense, they will continue to win despite what the "haters" think..and the cites around detroit that the players actually live in, are some of the richest cities in the US, look up bloomfield hills it does not get any richer

Unfortunately this is the life of the redwings now. It's a dirty city that is heavily crime filled plus they play in one of the oldest arenas in the league and have a fan base that only shows up in the playoffs (despite the 'hockey town moniker' but that's a story for a different day). Unless holland finds steals like zetterburg and datsyuk late in the draft it's going to be very difficult to sell free agents to choose to go there. As suter proved its not about money or a 'storied' franchise but family. And choosing to move your family to detroit wouldn't be the smartest or safest of landing spot

I don't want the wings 2 spend money 4 the sake of spending money but I also really wanted them 2 get a chance @ the cup this year. I just always saw it ever since I was a little kid, 2013- Detroit Redwings Stanley cup champions. So I hope we @ least can get Doan and a decent defensemen
