Scott Hartnell wants a contract extension, and he doesn’t want to wait until the last minute to get one.

“Scott would welcome coming back; he loves it in Philadelphia,” his agent, Matt Oates, told CSNPhilly.com. “But we haven’t had any contact with the Flyers just yet.”

The 30-year-old power forward scored a career-high 37 goals in 2011-12 and has one season left on a six-year, $25.2 million deal.

A source told CSNPhilly.com the Flyers are likely to open up contract talks with Hartnell shortly; however, it’s possible the club will want to hold off signing anything until a new CBA is agreed upon.

I suggest a rich 12 year contract and then a trade next summer.

  2. jrsaffell - Jul 12, 2012 at 4:56 PM

I see fewer goals coming off Harty’s stick this year.

Like James Neal with Malkin, Hartnell should never leave Giroux. Hartnell should score at least 30 again this year.

The sooner it gets done, the better off the Flyers will be because once Perry gets his contract, all hell’s gonna break lose.

I dont think so, once the new CBA is in place, the cap may drop. If it does, Hartnell will get less than what he would at the current time. It is better to wait. Plus, the Flyers should watch how they spend on forwards like Hartnell, they may have cap problems with younger guys like Giroux, Voracek, and Simmonds needing new deals in 2 years.

Hes not getting any younger and he is highly overrated. I say trade him now and get the most from him. With all the other players on the Flyers that need contract extension, he isn’t on the top of my list.

Do you know he has a NO TRADE CLAUSE or are you too busy waxing your carrot to a picture Micheal Vick electrocuting a dog?

No one gives a rats ass who is on your list. Hartnell is a top three candidate to be captain of this team next year. He’s never leaving Philly and that should make you and the rest of Flyer nation feel relieved.

Classy. The Vick reference was completely unecessary. No one gives a rats ass about your personal opinion on a topic not even related to hockey….grow up and move on.

Hey eagles fan.. A guy who WANTS to stay in Philly with a NTC… How can we trade him?

Reup him for 3-4 more years, NMC, and take a nice little pay cut… 3-3.5 to help the team win a cup, he loves Philly, the die hards love him.

i bet he wants an extension now, he knows his stock will only fall from here, no way he repeats this seasons goals. he will be trade fodder at the deadline next season

Was Malkin already on the cover? Because as Hartsy said to him “you are the ugliest player on the NHL”

    @Mclovin

Lol. 3m? For a 37g scorer? Even if he night never nets that many again, he is worth more than that.

I think 3 yrs $18M should do it. We need Scotty

Filthydelphia will never compare to The Franchise & SCA, regardless of who they sign

Except for the first round of the Playoffs, but when has that ever mattered?

The Pittsburgh hate towards Philly is comical I never thought any group of people could be whiny little girls more that your team is

Be that as it may, Philly fans continue to want what Sid and Geno and Steel City IC Light drinking Pens fans already have and that’s a Stanley Cup… I’m sure Pens fans were stung by last years exit at the hands of the Flyers, but the Flyboys then forgot that they had to win 3 more rounds to win the cup after that… Both teams will be in contention again this year it’ll be interesting to see if Mr. Universe rebounds from his dismal 1st season in Orange and Black I think he continues to be the key to their success or lack there of especially with Carle gone and Pronger’s health questions.

      • 28giroux28 - Jul 13, 2012 at 6:22 PM

You act like Carle leaving was a burden not a relief. I mean Luke Schenn isn’t elite, but he’s sure as hell better than the Turnover Machine.
