Sorry bro but new jersey made it to the cup final with more of a no name defense then we have and Howard is better then brodeur by a tiny bit in my opinion. Any team can win the damn cup if they make the playoffs. If we get 40-60 points out of smith he succesfully replaced Lidstrom offensivley. Not in any other category tho

Smith may be a really good player, but he is not Lidstrom and/or Stuart. They are in a OMG ITS HORRIBLE state. More importantly though, they will never win a cup with Jimmy Howard in goal. Maybe their goalie acquisition will correct this problem. Otherwise, it is going to be another painful season to watch.

Also, Smith was on pace last year in his limited time to put up Suter like offensive numbers for about 6.8 million less !

The soup can guy isn’t banned yet cause….

1. He made multiple accounts?
2. He makes irrelevant comments?
3. He makes vulgar comments?
4. He attacks other users?
5. He attacks the author?

….yeah I don’t see this being a problem yet. I used to just not read PIT and PHI stories, but now it’s everywhere since he prematurely shot his wad over acquiring Parise.

Smith is actually a really good player, u never really know how this young guys can turn out. They could be like a Erik karlsson or they could be like Jacob kindl, kindl makes too many mistakes. But either way I’m not worried bout the wings. We still have Quincy, Kronwall, white, and Ericsson who have played in this league long enough 2 know how 2 play defense. And don’t be surprised if u see Kronwall and Quincy taking bigger leadership roles on and off the ice. However I do think the wings should try going after someone @ the trade deadline or maybe a little before, someone like Keith yandle or robyn regehr. And as far as r offense goes let’s just try 2 get Shane Doan for now.

I agree… but I’m ‘calling out’ a few guys who need to get off cruise control –

1) Ericsson – decent season… but time for the big man to step up and earn a leadership role, playing up to both his potential and size. No more creampuff approach – heady and tough..
2) Kronwall – all those stunning hits are great for highlight reels…. but time to play stellar ‘overall’ D. No more ‘-minus’ seasons.
3) Abdelkader – only 22 pts and 8 goals, but second on team for PIM… doesn’t cut it. There are Red Wing Defensemen with more points, more goals, and less PIM. This isn’t the minors – play like the Pro you’re capable of and stop messing around.

I agree. Sure the Wings D isn’t as good as last year but in terms of talent now it’s what a lot of teams look like. Most teams don’t have a Lidstrom. But yeah depth is where it’s scary. Last year they didn’t have depth up front and it cost them late this year, as of now, it’s on D.

Smith is a really good player and was ready 2 years ago. The redwings defense isnt in a OMG ITS HORRIBLE state. Yes Lidstrom is gone but smith is gona help alot. Kronwall,Quincey,Smith,Kindl,White,Ericcson are all fully capable but if injuries happen were in bad shape because there is like no depth lol
