Unless Luongo’s “a major gaming industry CEO,” Panthers CEO might not be meeting him in Vegas

Jul 9, 2012, 1:15 PM EDT

So maybe Florida Panthers CEO Michael Yormark isn’t going to Las Vegas to meet with a certain Canucks goalie. According to his Twitter feed, he’s going there to have dinner with “a major gaming industry CEO.”

Yesterday, Yormark tweeted he was off to Vegas for a “very important dinner” on Monday night. This led to speculation he would be dining with Luongo, who’s there participating in the World Series of Poker.

Florida is believed to be the most likely destination for Luongo to be traded.

Of course, it’s still possible the two could meet up. Maybe share a couple of daiquiris poolside?

Luongo is not a great fit in fla! They would need a playoff performer not a choker! I’m actually a fan of luongo but that guys reputation is well earned

I’m sure they know one another is there and they will be talking.

While all the speculation is fun to listen to and add to (especially in the offseason where there is not much happening), I have to say I was a little skeptical this meeting was with Luongo in the first place. This is a (potential) trade we’re talking about. Why would the Panthers be meeting with Luongo himself, especially when Florida is already a preferred destination of Luongo’s? It’s not like they need to convince him to come there. Plus, aside from agreeing to waiving a no-trade/no-movement clause, players do not hold a hat in the process of working a trade. That is for the GMs and other front office brass to figure out.

“Maybe share a couple of daiquiris poolside?” …

That’s an odd remark ? While I’m on record here for rejecting Luongo’s selfish and petulant ways, never once did I ever suspect him of being a poofster ? Regardless, it’s now a “given” that he and Yormark will meet up there in Vegas in-order to finalize details … and the Canucks should be thanking their lucky stars ! It’s only because of us LA Kings that they’ll now finally be set free from the yoke of this man’s greed ! :)
