Shane Doan’s agent says he’s interested in joining Blackhawks

When the NHLPA conducted its first meetings about the CBA, reports surfaced that Jonathan Toews was whispering in Shane Doan‘s ear about joining the Chicago Blackhawks. That sales pitch must have gone well because Doan’s agent told Chris Kuc that there’s some mutual interest in getting something done.

Shane Doan’s agent, Terry Bross, said not only have #Blackhawks contacted them, but also that Doan has interest in joining Hawks.

Sure, the Blackhawks probably have bigger fish to try this off-season when it comes to improving their defensive depth and overall goaltending. Some might view adding Doan as overkill because the team’s forward group is already formidable. Still, Toews, Patrick Kane, Patrick Sharp, Marian Hossa & Co. provide a lot of things, but few – if any – of those players approach Doan’s ruggedness.

Doan could provide the sort of presence the team hasn’t seen since they employed the likes of Dustin Byfuglien and Troy Brouwer.

With that in mind, adding Doan could make a lot of sense. It’s a solid idea from the Phoenix Coyotes captain’s perspective as well; Chicago recently won a Stanley Cup and doesn’t have the money problems that Phoenix faces each season.

What do you think, though? How wise would this move be for both sides?

The Boston Bruins aren’t on his wish list.

Vancouver Canucks are in the running.

The New York Rangers are/were in the hunt.

Philadelphia Flyers show some interest.

At one point, 11 teams hoped to be in the mix.

well there goes Bryan Bickell’s icetime

    • mclovinhockey - Jul 9, 2012 at 7:36 PM

Doans on the right, Bickell plays left… the hawks need some better left wings right now

Well it really kinda takes out the proximity thing if he’s willing to go as far as Chicago. I understand wanting to stay in the West, but if you make it to Chicago, you can go to, say, Detroit…

You know its the off season when theres a article for every team interested in doan and a article for every team doan’s agent says he’s interested in. Not hating just saying.

I say if you’re a team thats close to contending and you get a chance at a player like Doan you go for it .. .but having said that, you gotta agree that another Fwd has to be pretty far down their priority list.

On paper, sure, but keep in mind they have been as vague as can be about the status of Hossa’s recovery and Toews isn’t exactly out of the woods yet, either.

Ya fair enough, I actually forgot about Hossa and we were just talkin about him a couple days ago. Thats a big expensive question mark..

It would be a good fit a gritty top 6 forward would compliment the hawks wingers and he’s a very good leader and mentor.

  6. rushledger - Jul 9, 2012 at 7:30 PM

    Stay in Phoenix please

  7. mclovinhockey - Jul 9, 2012 at 7:35 PM

Right now I dont see the hawks as one of the best contenders for the cup, but anything can happen…
then again, if they sign Doan, trade Kane for Nash (doubt that will happen), all they would really need is for CC to play as good as his first year and the hawks could be deadly…

    • dhawks19 - Jul 9, 2012 at 7:42 PM

Your right if the hawks get 1 more good forward and Keith and seabrook play well and Crawford plays decent they can win a cup

  8. mattmc20 - Jul 9, 2012 at 7:37 PM

I just read an article that said Doan would love to play in Detroit if Phoenix falls through. Bored with talk just report fact. Ps, Doan to Detroit is at http://www.mlive.com/sports

I read the same thing the only team Doan’s agent called was Detroit. Every other team had to call his agent.

and all this is because a few tea bag-gers are whining and complaining about the lease….way to go, lets just ship the whole team out of the state and then watch and laugh when they complain about an arena that they have to pay for but has no further use (save for a few concerts here and there).

Ohhh man I’d love to have him on the hawks. In an ideal world the hawks land doan and weber. I know it won’t happen, but it’s always nice to dream.

Would love every second of this. Ditch Brunette, bring him aboard. Less having to shuffle around a 3rd line winger into the top 6. Only thing that concerns me is the fact that Leddy is a RFA next season. Hawks need to maintain cap space to keep him.
