In case there was any doubt, we got another indication of just how excited Minnesota Wild fans are about the signings of Zach Parise and Ryan Suter.

According to Michael Russo of the Minneapolis-St. Paul Star Tribune, the Minnesota Wild have sold over 1,500 season tickets since Wednesday when the Wild signed the duo and changed the team’s identity.

It’s fair to say that a lot of people in and outside of Minnesota are going to be watching the Wild with great interest when the 2012-13 season begins. They aren’t the first team to follow up a disappointing campaign with a big showing during the free agent process, but it’s rare to see a team land two players of the caliber of Parise and Suter.

Last year, the Buffalo Sabres made a big splash in the summer of 2011 by adding Christian Ehrhoff and Ville Leino to their roster, but Parise has a far better track record than Leino.

All the same, the Sabres are perhaps the most recent cautionary tale. It’s one thing for them to boost their team on paper, but ultimately all this excitement and attention will only last if they follow it up with an impressive showing in 2012-13.
