The search for the elusive Crosby winger continues

Jul 4, 2012, 3:44 PM EDT

Even without Zach Parise, the Pittsburgh Penguins are still in pretty good shape. That said, Pens GM Ray Shero would’ve loved to see what Parise could do on Sidney Crosby’s wing.

Hard to blame him there. Imagine a Crosby-Parise duo on one line and an Evgeni Malkin-James Neal pair on another, with Pascal Dupuis and Chris Kunitz also in the mix.

Instead Shero will have to keep looking.

“If we could [find a winger to play with Crosby, it would be fantastic,” Shero said today, as per Seth Rorabaugh of the Post-Gazette. “It would make life a lot easier.”

Unrestricted free-agent wingers that could potentially fill the void include Shane Doan and Alex Semin. The former is waiting on the Coyotes’ ownership situation to clear up; the latter has a ton of talent, but his fair share of critics as well.

Do the Pens have the assets to get Bobby Ryan out of Anaheim in a trade?

here comes the god of all gms with a gamechanger move!! stanley cup thick style 2012

    • 1943mrmojorisin1971 - Jul 4, 2012 at 4:04 PM

2012 Stanley Cup was already handed out bud.

    • cindysoupforbrainscrosby - Jul 4, 2012 at 5:30 PM

“i can’t wait to play with parise again” cindy twinkletoes, monday 7/2

“i don’t like him. i don’t like anyone who doesn’t want to pick up the slack for me when i end my career with a freak headboard injury after a game of tummy sticks with flowers. no more questions, my flow is extra heavy this month and I’m in dire need of a tampon.” pittsburgh penguin diva #87 today

      • isithockeyseasonyet - Jul 4, 2012 at 5:52 PM

It’s entertaining how delusional penguins fans are, how is shero a great gm again? I can’t believe anybody would want to play for them after the way they embarassed themselves vs Philly last playoff season

      • handsofsweed - Jul 4, 2012 at 6:35 PM

So you’re not embarassed by failing every year since 1975?

  2. sjsharks66 - Jul 4, 2012 at 4:04 PM

Who could the pens trade for bobby Ryan? Would the ducks take Paul Martin and draft picks? I would think the ducks would ask for James Neal or Letang.

    • theawesomersfranchise - Jul 4, 2012 at 4:29 PM

Joe Nieuwendyk would trade Neal and Letang for Ryan

    • odj810 - Jul 4, 2012 at 4:44 PM

i think your right. It’s gonna be more then paul martin. Also when your a top club like pitt your draft picks hold alot less value to teams.

      • dtob79 - Jul 5, 2012 at 1:45 AM

The Pens have young defensemen for days in their system. They have the assets to get Ryan.

    • napoleonblownapart6887 - Jul 5, 2012 at 9:26 AM

The Pens wouldn’t give up Neal, because then we’re in the exact same position except now we’re looking for a winger for Geno. I also don’t think they’ll give up Letang – they want him around to mentor some of the new DLine talent coming up.

The problem is that the Pens just don’t fit well with the Ducks (or the Jackets for that matter) in terms of being a trading partner. We have several great you defensive prospects, but from my understanding both teams are looking for offensive prospects.

The only way I see a deal for Bobby Ryan getting done would be if the Pens traded TK and/or Eric Tangradi, Dumolin, and a pick… not even sure if that makes sense.

  3. GenoPringles - Jul 4, 2012 at 4:06 PM

The real question is who is worthy of playing on the same line as Soupcan? Very few hall of famers even had the speed and girth to keep up with Sid. Not sure guys like Gretzky or Yzerman would be good enough. Stay calm soup can nation, lord shero will find someone for Sid to turn into an all star

    • michael90212 - Jul 4, 2012 at 4:39 PM

Funny comment overall, proving the Pens-fans d-b argument below.

But just one question – what do you mean by girth? Are you suggesting only fat people can keep up with Sid? ‘Cause… that’s just plain counterintuitive. Or maybe you don’t know what girth means?

      • paulsdamnblog - Jul 4, 2012 at 6:35 PM

Obviously Geno and all of the screen names he comments under seem overly obsessed with Sid’s “girth”. I wonder if Sid knows this and if he’s worried?

      • handsofsweed - Jul 4, 2012 at 6:38 PM

Oh, he’s in internal gridlock due to his not-so-latent h0m0eroticism. Yeah, he’s our resident loser. Mario Lemieux said he was embarassed by him and that he’s a “garage league” poster.

  4. jnealsmanmeat - Jul 4, 2012 at 4:08 PM

Everyone loves raymond SHERO. Just watch the magic man pull a winner out of The Franchises hat. I cant wait for his next stealthy move.

  5. therealjr - Jul 4, 2012 at 4:21 PM

If I’m a Pens fan and not a d-b, where do I go? Obviously not here.

    • handsofsweed - Jul 4, 2012 at 4:26 PM

      http://www.pensburgh.com

    • michael90212 - Jul 4, 2012 at 4:35 PM

Never heard of such a phenomenon. Non d-b Pens fan???? You’re talking about mythology!

      • handsofsweed - Jul 4, 2012 at 6:40 PM

He’s actually like 18 people on here. Every single d-bag comment made by a Pens fan was made by him. So, there’s no myth. Just one h0m0erotic weirdo.

    • bmscalise - Jul 4, 2012 at 5:08 PM

I would recommend Faceoff Factor and Get to our Game for Pens talk – way better than Pensburgh.

Nash apparently just expanded his list; Pittsburgh can now make an offer.

    • paperkid96 - Jul 4, 2012 at 7:24 PM

Problem is Howson will ask for Crosby, Malkin, Letang, 2013 1st rd pick, 2014 1st rd pick. The guy has no clue and will be stuck getting 60-70 points for 7.8 mil/yr cap hit.

  7. parisepeesonmypenispouch - Jul 4, 2012 at 4:33 PM

hey mojorisin. canada sucks, its freedom day here in the best country in the world. no wonder why soup can sid signed here for his life. AMERICA AND THE FRANCHISE IS BETTER THAN YOU

    • atwatercrushesokoye - Jul 4, 2012 at 4:50 PM

Just remember the only reason your team exists is because a Canadian agreed to take them off the scrap heap and save them, and then he had to draft another Canadian to make the team relevant again. Oh and yeah Cindy signed with the Pens but who’d she score the winning goal for at the Olympics?

Btw I’m glad you guys decided to rebuild that White House thing…and yeah I’m aware that comment is way over your head.

Now that I’ve gotten that out of the way happy 4th of July to all Americans on here except for this 13 year old and his 27 user names.

    • danphipps01 - Jul 4, 2012 at 7:54 PM

Did that account even make it two days before Parise told “the Franchise” to get bent? I’m quite curious.

  8. parisepeesonmypenispouch - Jul 4, 2012 at 4:42 PM

no dickbag were talking abouy how thick soup cans penis is.

  9. phillyphever - Jul 4, 2012 at 4:54 PM

Lost any stars? Ah, they traded Jordan Staal (who’s gonna be missed in Pittsburgh more than people realize).

    • flyersgoalscoredby88 - Jul 4, 2012 at 5:10 PM

Actually very few people outside of the brainwashing you get in the Pitt media consider Jordan staal a star. He’s a good player, but he found one of three teams that would be willing to sign him to that contract (Toronto being the other).

    • Jason Brough - Jul 4, 2012 at 5:17 PM

Took that part out. Forgot about Staal. It’s been a long day.

  10. capsfan19 - Jul 4, 2012 at 4:56 PM

    Ovi is king.

    • handsofsweed - Jul 4, 2012 at 6:42 PM

      Of?

      • paulsdamnblog - Jul 4, 2012 at 8:41 PM

King of dragging his own team down.

  11. 7ransponder - Jul 4, 2012 at 4:57 PM

Can we get a little moderation up in this site? Please?

    Thanks.

  12. heyzeus143 - Jul 4, 2012 at 5:03 PM

staal is a star they lost and this team got real avg real quick, no worries puckmover Paul Martin is still signed for awhile

    • atwatercrushesokoye - Jul 4, 2012 at 5:16 PM

According to Pierre Maguire on July 1,2010 the signings of Michalek and Martin were going to lead to multiple cups for the Pens…guess he missed on that one, no worries though he says the same thing about everyone anytime the Pens add a player. Too be honest Pierre Maguire often sounds like the idiot 13 year old with all the screen names.

      • jpelle82 - Jul 5, 2012 at 10:29 AM

i hate pierre, he sounds like a pedophile to me…he knows a lot about little canadian boys, seems to follow them around a lot too.

  13. bcjim - Jul 4, 2012 at 5:03 PM

I really hope Semin doesn’t wind up there.

    • bethgoesglobal - Jul 4, 2012 at 6:26 PM

I was just thinking the same thing- was gonna reply to capsfan19 with the that thought- glad I kept reading :-) Semin signing with the Pens would be the Biggest slap in the face to the Caps (which he may want to do, who knows?) I’m hoping he goes to the Wings.

      • handsofsweed - Jul 4, 2012 at 6:44 PM

Oh, for the love of Keeee-riiiist, if Semin lands with the Pens, d-bag and his 18 personalities is going to go into h0m0-overdrive.

  14. parisepeesonmypenispouch - Jul 4, 2012 at 5:10 PM

USA owns canada. crosby plays for the right country

    • flyersgoalscoredby88 - Jul 4, 2012 at 5:18 PM

When he plays for his country, doesn’t he play for Canada?

      • handsofsweed - Jul 4, 2012 at 6:46 PM

Dude, you’re talking to a guy who fantasizes about another man urinating on his scrotum.

  15. heyzeus143 - Jul 4, 2012 at 5:27 PM

and I’m not so sold on shero being a genius, one cup ain’t cuttin it when you have what you deem the two best players in the NHL, lost Malone, scuderi, talbot, Sullivan, still don’t have a good face-off guy, and the team continues to be a an easy push over when encountering a team with some toughness much like Philly

  16. pensfan8771 - Jul 4, 2012 at 5:41 PM

wow. as a pens fan, some of you other pens fans are embarrassing. and the Crosby bashing from flyers fans is sure getting old….
anyways…. I have no idea what I would do as pens GM. I don’t particularly like anyone out there to grab. .. we lost Sullivan… not a good couple weeks here.

    • claysbar - Jul 4, 2012 at 6:00 PM

I agree with ya. Not sure they have enough to get Ryan and I’m equally scared and intrigued about the idea of signing Semin.

    • handsofsweed - Jul 4, 2012 at 6:47 PM

It’s only one guy. With 18 usernames.

  17. ironcity6pak - Jul 4, 2012 at 7:37 PM

No way shero gives up Neal or letang. Letang is better then suter, pens have many players ready to play in the NHL that are regarded as top 6 prospects. Pens get Nash for Crosby, malkin, letang.

  18. broadstbully33 - Jul 4, 2012 at 10:57 PM

Ryan would not play for pity….plain and simple and no one wants martin or kennedy moronic pity fans

  19. broadstbully33 - Jul 4, 2012 at 10:58 PM

Pity fans sound like toronto fans trying to trade players no one wants for star talent and actually believe its a good trade

    • benzoids - Jul 5, 2012 at 9:11 AM

Your grammar is improving. I agree with you on the preposterous trade talk. Paul Martin is a throw in/salary dump in any deal the pens can make.

  20. jnealsmanmeat - Jul 5, 2012 at 1:12 AM

All u canadian and minny people are soo jealous that soupcan sid is an unstoppable force that neither heaven or hell can deal with. The only lord he answers to is Stanley, and hes due to return to The Franchise that was made in his own image. Get ready everyone, time to repent before Soupcan hits the ice, but he spares NO ONE!!! THICK THICK THICK

  21. phillyphan83 - Jul 5, 2012 at 6:28 AM

Hahahahahaha where you at GenoPringles and all your other aliases??? You talked all that trash how you’re getting both praise AND suter, now you got NEITHER!!! What happened to the Soup Can Army and how EVERYONE wants to play for “the franchise”??? hahahaha

  22. napoleonblownapart6887 - Jul 5, 2012 at 7:39 PM

The Pens have a ton of defensive prospects available for trade, but the Ducks and Jackets aren’t looking for Defense, so I think a trade is out.

Doan and Semin probably wouldn’t be good fits – Shero won’t overpay for either of them, and someone else likely would. Disappointed we didn’t get Parise, but it might make sense to stand pat and use the flexibility at the trade deadline. Crosby has never had a stud winger and has been able to succeed so maybe he can continue his magic with Dupuis and TK/Jeffrey?
