Uh, What? I bumbled the Roy contract, $5.5mil in this, his final year, of that deal, but Ruff does not force players to be defensively responsible. If that was the case, we would look more like the Blues and less like the Sabres (Becasue there is no other team in the NHL that is remotley close to us I guess...). Ruff's scheme is to turtle with a lead, something he broke out of a bit last season. Ryan also plays a Two-Way role on Anaheims roster, so again, that makes no sense. The problem is that almost all of our Forwards suck on the back-check and in the defensive zone in general. Kaleta and Gerbe are the only 2 forwards I see that don't kill this team with the puck in their own zone. This is why Staal was mentioned. The most telling number in the Sabres statistics is in his +/-. Year in, year out, we rarely have multiple players over the +10 ranking. Buffalo had 1 player with a +10 or better and that was Tyler Ennis. And thats only because his line was scorching hot at the end of the season.

I'd love to see Bobby Ryan come to Buffalo, but this would fall under the category of "giant" deal- not exactly a strong suit of Darcy Regier. If Anaheim is interested in 4th round picks and the Derek Roys (on an expiring contract) and Mike Webers of Buffalo's roster, then Regier would reluctantly pull the trigger.

Yes but the rest of the article from the News also talks about how it is very doubtful Ryan would want to play for Ruff. Ryan is not known as a defensive player and Ruff forces every player to play both ends (hence why no one on the sabre's scores many goals (and why we don't win enough to make the playoffs most years)).
So the answer should be get rid of Ruff, but of course that won't happen until the middle of next season.

not a ducks fan, but i believe if they are going to move him at all, it would be in their best interest to get Ryan as far away from the pacific as possible. He always shows up to play when he comes to staples, and im sure he would have no reservations at all laying it all out there when he returns to Honda.

The only reason Anaheim wants to move Ryan is because they need to pay Getzlaf and Perry. They obviously don't think Ryan is worth the extra cash, so taking Roy wouldn't be a bad thing for Anaheim, he's under contract for a few more years, and at a much more affordable price than Ryan, peaking in the last year at $5.5mil. Roy can play both Center and Wing, and only 2 seasons ago, was on a point per game basis over 30 games. Buffalo could offer alot as far as prospects and future talent. Foligno and McNabb are off limits I would assume, but Luke Adam, Corey Tropp, or even Joel Armia could fill in as those players, with a pick or two. If Anaheim is Heck bent on getting players who can play this year, I think Roy, Sekera, a First and Coey Tropp, which might be a bit much, can land him. I'm sorry, but the jab at the level of talent Buffalo has was a bit harsh. Sure, we have no Claude Giroux, but Hodgson can develop into a great center-man and he probably would land on a line with Pommer, and maybe a PP line with Ennis and Stafford, that would be electric. He would also be the offensive center of attention, along with Vanek. Get it done Darcy.

100% agree with you. I know it's wishful thinking but you see a quiet day 1 of FA, you kind of hope something big like that would happen in day 2...

At least we don't have to pace back and forth all day worried about Parise's final destination since we're obviously not in on the bidding!
