Penner sticks with Kings: one year, $3.25 million

Dustin Penner has re-signed with the Los Angeles Kings for one year and “north of $3 million,” reports ESPN’s Pierre LeBrun.

(Update: it’s one year, $3.25 million.)

Not a bad haul for a forward that scored 10 goals in 85 games, regular season and playoffs combined. (And is in no danger of winning the Selke Trophy.)

Presumably the Kings’ Stanley Cup victory played a large role in their decision to bring back the 29-year-old that’s been more punch line than player since arriving in Los Angeles from Edmonton in February of 2011.

To be fair, Penner did score the goal that sent the Kings to the Cup finals, and there’s something to be said for his ability to quote The Simpsons.

Yes! I think this will be a turn around for ‘cakes. Sutter knows what he can do now and will keep lighting the fire. Hope he stays on twitter, this guy is money

i like it. i think the kings need to keep the team in tact if they want to continue to be one of the best. they’re doing a good job of it so far (penner, stoll, fraser)

    GO KINGS GO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As an ardent and loyal fan of the Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings, this signing is “music to my ears” ! No Highlander, we aren’t “one of the best” … the fact is that “we are” the best ! :) Please remember that we didn’t just win … we absolutely “decimated” the very best which they have to offer, on our way to total and supreme victory ! In fact, such “one-sided” dominance hasn’t been seen since the Oilers, back in the 1980′s ! So like a finely tuned sports car or a classical musical instrument, we LA Kings are a “beautiful thing” which requires nothing more than the chance to do it again ! :)
