Pittsburgh has one of the lowest income taxes in the NHL. In fact, only teams in Alberta, and U.S. teams south of the Mason-Dixon line have lower taxes for sports stars. Lightening, Panthers, Stars, Preds, Blues, Coyotes, Oilers and Flames are barely below Pittsburgh in that regard. And even in a best-tax-case scenario playing for the Panthers at the same contract, he’d only keep an extra $109,000 a year.

I just can’t get over the 87. Birthday, birth year, jersey number, old salary, new cap hit….I’m guessing he’ll live until that age too. Superstitious much?

If he has to pay taxes in the US, he’ll blow most of it on Obamacare.
