Courtesy Elliotte Friedman of Hockey Night in Canada, here’s how Sidney Crosby’s 12-year, $104.4 million contract (cap hit $8.7 million) will be paid out in salary by the Pittsburgh Penguins:

2013-14: $12 million
2014-15: $12 million
2015-16: $12 million
2016-17: $10.9 million
2017-18: $10.9 million
2018-19: $10 million
2019-20: $9 million
2020-21: $9.6 million
2021-22: $9 million
2022-23: $3 million
2023-24: $3 million
2024-25: $3 million

Crosby will be 37 years old and a very rich man upon expiration of the deal.

Unless he blows everything on jewelry.

Ya, but after taxes…not that much money…

    • biasedhomer - Jul 1, 2012 at 4:15 PM

I’m pretty sure after taxes, thats still more money than I’ll ever see in 90 life times.

Pittsburgh has one of the lowest income taxes in the NHL. In fact, only teams in Alberta, and U.S. teams south of the Mason-Dixon line have lower taxes for sports stars. Lightening, Panthers, Stars, Preds, Blues, Coyotes, Oilers and Flames are barely below Pittsburgh in that regard. And even in a best-tax-case scenario playing for the Panthers at the same contract, he’d only keep an extra $109,000 a year.

I just can’t get over the 87. Birthday, birth year, jersey number, old salary, new cap hit….I’m guessing he’ll live until that age too. Superstitious much?

If he has to pay taxes in the US, he’ll blow most of it on Obamacare.
