Video: Weighing the risks of Crosby’s new deal

Jun 29, 2012, 8:00 AM EDT

The Pittsburgh Penguins’ front office and Sidney Crosby‘s agents are ecstatic about his new, essentially lifetime deal – at least publicly. But with the concussion-related elephant in the room, many wonder if Crosby’s contract would be like just about any other long-term pact: a huge risk. The video below assesses that risk:

This is almost as stupid as “Rick the gold-tender” this guy is one hit away…and why would you sign someone to 12 years who has shown the world what a punk he is. my god he and that whole philly series was so annoying, not to mention his return ruined that team, it’s always about him…go ahead pick up Praise… Stall is twice the player. And we are supposed to think he is honorable for not getting a raise, just 8.7 million a year for 12 years, regardless actually now that I think about it it’s probably laden with insurance clauses. he will be out of hockey within a year and a half and the rest of the world wont have to deal with this insolent baby.

First and foremost, everyone is “one hit away”. It’s a rough league and career’s have been ended by just one shot, concussion history or otherwise. I assume that the Penguins poured over every medical record they could find as well as getting as many opinions as possible on the likelihood of his symptoms coming back. Ultimately though if you want to keep a player for a long period, its always going to be a risk, but a risk that a lot of teams have to take. The Kings did it with Quick, the Caps with Ovi, etc.

As for your assesment with him as a player – it’s not worth fighting you on it as you have clearly made up your mind on your thoughts of him. But just some food for thought:
      - Crosby didn’t ruin the Pens. It was a complete breakdown on the back end and Fleury going cold at the wrong time.
      - Staal (note spelling) is not twice the player Crosby is. Staal is a fantastic two way hockey player and I wish him the best in Carolina. But Crosby is a top tier player without question. Speaking of…
      - You have to get this deal because the kid is 24 years old and if healthy, is only going to improve. If you extrapolate is numbers out from last year he was on pace for ~30 goals, ~100 assists.

      Anywho, as you were.

So many stupid comments where to begin?

Bah why bother with trying to explain hockey to a clueless lil boy.

      “Staal is twice the player”

Translated – “I know NOTHING about hockey, I have a child-like mind, I have a favourite team and my knowledge begins and ends there”

    napoleon,

Well stated to that tool. Almost every line of his post declares his ignorance and obsession.

I was all set up to reply, but you said what was needed.

Crosby and malkin are the biggest babies and cheap shot artists in the history of the nhl. Pittsburgh can have them. I could not root for my team if they ever played for them.

Ummm Staal is twice the player parise is…. Not Crosby.

You must be out of your damn mind!

Anyway high risk high reward move here…. Watch the YouTube video Crosby vs CRYsby… It shows exactly why he is the most hated player in the league and why Pitt fans love him… It’s very unbiased.

Hadn’t seen that video before, but it actually does a pretty good job of explaining why he’s loved/hated. My only caveat is the dives were largely from his earlier games when, well he was pretty embarassing. He’s toned that down quite a bit, but unfortunately he won’t get the benefit of the doubt (nor should he necessarily).

    • theawesomersfranchise - Jun 29, 2012 at 2:07 PM

Did you just say Crosby is the most hated player in the league?
      LMAO
You are as clueless as the rest

      Say Goodbye to any credibility

How stupid does one need to be to think a youtube video that has “CRYsby” in the title is unbias?
Seriously, how utterly moronic and ignorant do you have to be to have your mind wrap around such foolishness and accept it?

-Red Wings fan who has more reason to dislike Crosby than anyone other than Philly fans

Although I don’t like the dude much at all (resident Capitals fan), stoked that he’ll keep Pitt happy for years to come. Incredible player and he sells tickets for sure. Hopefully he can stay healthy

side note- dildos: if you are posting just to bash a team, no one wants to read your trash.
