The Nashville Predators were able to re-sign Hal Gill, but the Tennessean is reporting that they might not be so fortunate with Paul Gaustad.

Predators GM David Poile is still hoping to ink Gaustad before the free agent period starts on July 1, but that doesn’t seem likely.

“Paul intends to wait until July 1st to see what options are available, but he is definitely considering Nashville’s offer to re-sign,” Gaustad’s agent, Michael Gorman said.

Gaustad is coming off of a four-year, $9.2 million contract and is probably hoping for something with a similar annual salary.

He had 21 points and 76 penalty minutes in 80 games with Buffalo and Nashville last season. He’s faceoff specialist and responsible defensively. The Nashville Predators gave Buffalo a first-round pick in exchange for Gaustad and a fourth rounder back on Feb. 27.

Nice job with the “tickle fight” picture

Giving up a 1st round pick for potentially only a rental? Wouldn’t sting so much if you go on to win a cup, but ouch.

Goose, please come back to buffalo. We love you here! The Kaleta,Goose,Gerbe line was sometimes our best line, and that may say something bad about the rest of the team, but when that line was on, the Sabres won more games then they lost. He is one of the hardest workers I have ever seen. The lucic incedent may not be his shining moment, but killing multiple 5 on 3s without a stick overshadows that by alot. He can always be counted on for that important face off win in his own zone when it counts. Whoever lands him will get a class act as well. Good luck Paul!
