@ the pens fan asking about widemen. He is pretty much the exact opposite of what you just said. He produces points well but his defensive skills are lacking. Your team just dropped a talented guy who was paid about 4 mill and has been trying to drop another very talented player who is paid 5 mill. If the pens get him it would help in the shoot outs we call matches between Philly and Pitt but dumping around 4.5 on a guy who not good defensively is not the move Pitt should be doing.
Not sure you trust me since I am a flyers fan but hockey is like a religion to me

Could a Caps fan (or someone more familiar than I with them) give me the unadulterated dirty on this guy? Depending on how things play out in the Parise/Sutter realm, the Pens might take a look at Wideman. From what I remember he was a solid defenseman who was above average offensively but wasn’t the strongest skater in the world. This assessment is based off of the 4 games against the Pens last year so its a very small sample size. Am I way off here? Is he looking for more than 4.5 a year?

I really think the Flyers will get Wideman. He’s pretty much Matt Carle with a right-handed shot, which the Flyers desparately need.

Wideman is GOOD, but not nearly as good as this article makes him sound. He tailed off terribly after the all star break, he can eat minutes, but his defensive play is subpar, as is his speed.

I’ll catch some flack for this but let it be said: I’d rather keep Mike Green for his defensive play that has drastically improved, than Wideman.
