And isn’t Adam Oates also a promising young coach?

Some George McPhee haters out there blame him for not hiring a seasoned NHL coach with lots of victories. At the same time, others blame him for not hiring a new coach from the minors. In their eyes, he can’t win no matter what he does.

I prefer to think that choosing a Hall of Famer with strong credentials as an assistant coach these past few years is a good choice. At least give him a chance.

A mediocre coach does NOT come to a team with a losing record, get them to the playoffs for five years straight, win their division repeatedly, win the conference, and win the president’s trophy all in the first five years of his NHL coaching career. You obviously do not know the definition of the word mediocre. Hate Bruce all you want, but don’t fool yourself into believing he is mediocre. You’re lack of basic hockey knowledge is blaring.

You either find a great coach with current NHL experience (like those exist that are not on teams doing really well already…) or take a chance on someone that can end up being a great coach.

Outside of those two options, you can find a mediocre coach on a mediocre team and we already got rid of Bruce

A lot of Caps fans are on the fence about Oates. A lot of Caps fans also wanted a coach with no previous ties to the team for obvious reasons…failure. Ron Wilson was the last one with no ties and he took them to the Cup.
I for one am happy about the hire because of his long career in the NHL and under many great coaches. I also hope he can help some of our centers get better because that has been our weakest link in the past few years.
