good luck to both. JVR has stud skills – hope he gets the mental reshaping he needs to be a star. Shenn.. haven’t seen a ton but haven’t seen anything speical the few times I’ve seen him. Anyone playing solid D will be refreshing in Philly. (see how much we fell in love with Grossman)

The difference a year makes. A year ago, JvR was a bright, promising young player. In the last 365 days, he has failed the toughness test …. The Flyers do not put up with any softness issues. JvR showed twice in the last season that he was willing to be “not heathy enough to play”,….. To avoid trades. Buh-bye!!! In the long run, good trade for both.

The flyers traded someone who will be a top 6 forward on the leafs for someone who will be a 5th D on the flyers.

I wanted this trade, but the flyers should have gotten a pick next year as well. Maybe a 2nd rounder.

JVR is a good player who never did much on a team loaded with O… Schenn is a good player who never did much on a team loaded with D.

The Flyers needed D and their offense functioned just fine without JVR last season when he was injured.

Toronto has some talented Defenseman and could use a playmaker like JvR.

Both players are classic guys who have had good and bad years and could benefit from a change of scenery.

Their salaries are 600k apart and they’re signed for the same number of years.

This might be the most win-win trade ever.

I eagerly await the signing of Dinosaurs to play Defense. Stegasaurus and Triceratops will clearly paly the stay-at-home with big hits in the corner D we need, and T-Rex has short arms but moves the puck well and has the speed and crash-the-net attitude to play on the power play.

A power forward is someone that wins battles in the boards and crashes the net (see hartnel/ simmonds). Jvr wants to be a playmaker that doesnt get hit. Giroux was getting all the attention against boston which opened space for jvr to do what he did. Potential doesnt win cups. Schenn is the 5th dman (6th if carle resigns) on this team but is steady. Schenn suffered last year cause the toronto forwards dont play any defense……which gets worse now that jvr is there. Ok trade. 1) i wonder who gets nash now. 2) i love how the flyers are raising others teams cap number. 3) birons returning. 4) flyers are clearing cap space with the 2 trades why??????

We are coming from the same way of thinking. I ask everyone who defends JVR, is this guy capable of helping the Flyers win the Stanley Cup? I don’t care about games 1-82. I don’t care that his is a ‘local’ boy. He isn’t what some people make him to be. You have already said and I’ll sum up JVR’s game in one word: soft. He wasn’t able to thrive in Philly, where he had a very good support system. He isn’t going to get in Toronto. And if people think there is pressure to play and perform in Philly, Toronto (like Montreal) takes it to another level. Maple Leafs fans are more likely to have another reason to shake their heads at Mr. Burke.

THANK YOU! I’ve been saying I’ve never seen a huge player play like he’s Briere’s size. All he would do is get knocked off the puck. He has speed, but he doesn’t know how to overpower anyone, which is confusing since that’s the one thing he should be able to do.

The other thing I could never understand, is if he is so good why couldn’t he play with Giroux? He started the year on that line and got replaced by Hartnell. It’s troubling to know that he couldn’t play with Giroux…

Have you watched JVR play? What exactly does he bring to the table? It is funny how people just talk because they can. JVR was gone for half the season and the rest of the offense didn’t skip a beat. JVR is 6’3″ but plays the game as if he is 5’8″. In what way will JVR thrive in Toronto? Schenn was in the dog house and the Leafs are deep in the blue line. Schenn bring something that the Flyers sorely lack: physicality. The Flyers will not miss JVR. It was proven this year already.

I’m glad JVR is going somewhere he can make a difference. Homer and Lavy wasted him this year because of how well the rookies were playing. Just hope he stays healthy.
