I don”t think they’re counting on Pronger’s return. And, I think Panaccio has it right. The Flyers need to concentrate on defense.

thats why philly trades jvr read bob for maybe ryan. coots schenn gus mad giroux simms and voracek will be rfas before there next contracts in a couple years. giroux will get 8 mill at least but not for 2 years. briere timm will be retired before those contracts come up and thats 13 mill alone. philly wont go anywhere without a num 1 dman and the only one who fills thay role is weber so yes it is worth 4 low 1st round draft picks

The problem with having lots of young and talented players like the Flyers do is that they all want to end up getting paid, so you have to think of it like this, if you give Weber $8 million which of the young players are you going to let walk away? And with those players leaving do you need the first round picks to draft the players that will eventually take those players spots?

As a Flames fan I’ve seen enough wasted first round picks in my life that I see both sides of this, sometimes you’re better getting a known commodity rather than wasting the picks (the Flyers obviously draft way better than the Flames though) the other side is a few years down the road when the well dries because of the missing picks.

The problem with that is that the Jackets also need a face of the franchise front line player, with all due respect JVR isn’t that guy, Yakipov, Grigorenko or Murray seem to fit that. Columbus has a ton of holes which it looks like they’re trying to fill in any Nash deal.

Regardless of how fair the trade you talk about may be, the Jackets need to save the franchise by selling tickets, at this point making a pragmatic trade won’t do that.

actually if we did the offer i said we would lose the next 4 1st rnd picks witch is fine because or forwards are soo young and we are d is young after tim and pronger they are 28 and younger. gus and mab will be nhlers soon
so yea 4 1st rnd picks in the bottom ten is well worth it

I said it’s a smart trade cause both teams benefit from this. Philly needs to drop the cap and they dont need JVR. The jackets need a top forward and a goalie. It’s called being a smart gm. Look for what you need and what others need that you have an overload of.

1) columbus has traded rick nash, theyre announcing it at 5pm. 2) the devils have no owner so they wont have the resources to sign parise(the nhl own them). 3) if you sign weber to an offer sheet you lose 2 first rounders plus a 2nd and 3rd. 4) holmgren already tipped his hat saying JVR is still our player and the flyers are gonna be active come july 1st. 5) nashville has to sign 10 players so its not out of the realm of possibility that suter walks and weber is traded.

i have no opinion up or down on what he said, mostly because i don’t care what he says. everyone in philly knows panaccio is incompetent, that’s why he got dropped from an actual newspaper and moved to tv channel’s website. so keep that in mind while evaluating things panaccio says about anything.

If the Flyers are giving up so much why would they do it? As you say this isn’t a great draft class so why give up so many assets for a high pick in a down draft year? Especially when the player you want them to take might go number 1 (the Oilers brass took him to the WHC for a reason) and one thing Columbus needs is a face of the franchise, they’re likely trading the one the have now, so they have to get a talented player who can maybe sell a few tickets, they don’t get that in your trade.

How’d the last real long term contracts the Flyers gave out workout for them? You may think it seems like a good idea now but remember all those young and talented forwards you have will have expiring contracts and I’m guessing they won’t play for league minimum.

Also offer sheets like that work if the original club has no cap space, Nashville is usually right around the cap floor, some years they have to work hard to get there, with that contract you’re doing them a favor in helping the get there, and also allowing them to ensure they have Weber for as long as they want him.

JVR and bob should easily grab a 2nd overall. JVR was a 2nd overall, bob is a goalie with a lot of potential… Easily could be the new number 1 in Columbus.
The draft class this year is not very great…. The jackets get a far better goalie and a good top 6 (top 3 in clb) forward for a average goalie and a D who may be decent. If you think for some reason the jackets would still be skeptical on a deal which would have given them 2 of the 4 pieces they want for Nash while getting to keep Nash you can even toss in Bourdon from Philly to be a D prospect…. That’s 3 of the 4 pieces the jackets would want for Nash. Kinda over paying for the 2nd overall pick and a career back up but for some reason you think the jackets gm would not be smart enough to do that move when they STILL HAVE NASH TO DEAL…. Idiot

First off, it’s Couturier. Second off, he specialized in being a defensive forward. He shut down the Hart award winner Evgeni Malkin in the playoffs. Couturier took on his defensive role like a man and the flyers were much better when he did. I’m sure he’ll get better too, but he’s OKAY without the puck now.

offer sheet weber 10 years 80 mill give up the next 4 first round pocks as we really have nothing to lose when we are in bottom ten picks anyway. trade jvr bob let carle and jagr walk. i know offer sheets are a frowned on but really are d is against the wall and something has to be done. suter wideman or garrison are not top notch d men they are the best available d men. big difference.

I also read constantly about the need for Flyer D, I think it’s only partly true.
Fact is Read, Scheen, Vorachek, Courtier are like most young players, they are not responsible enough in their own end, not always have the proper positioning and the team D suffers. This is especially true for Voracheck and Courtier, when they were kids and in Junior they are used to having the puck so much they rarely learn and master the skills of what to be doing without it.

The Flyers D will look much better when these guys become more mature and coached up to play with-in the system.
And people cry about Matt Carle but they should ask Blackhawk fans about what it’s like to lose a Dman who can make break out passes and get the puck up top the forwards quickly and efficiently.

He has been recently given a front office position, some sort of free agent evaluation job. So based on that, I’d say yes, he will be around, but not how you would expect it. I doubt he will be ready next season, but maybe for the playoffs? Its not easy to set a date on him returning since know one can tell how well his brain recovers.

Good call by Tim. Exactly what all intelligent flyers fans have been thinking.

JVR and bob are good trade bait. Wouldn’t mind seeing them go to the BJS for Allen York and the 2nd overall.

Both teams would benefit from that deal. Philly cuts a decent amount of cap and gets Murray in the draft who is a D they really need. And York who is really nothing special, just to give Philly a backup.
The BJs get a possible new starting goalie as well as a top 6 forward that they really needed.

There’s a lot of disparity on the team right now with a talented group of young forwards and an ever-aging blue line. This needs to be addressed whether it’s via a trade, free agency, or the draft. I do not want to hinge everything on Pronger’s return, Timmo’s health, and/or Carle’s contract negotiations.

Honest question, is there any word on Pronger’s status? SHOULD the Flyers be planning on him being around? Last I heard the guy was still pretty borked up from that concussion. I’m not saying he’s a goner, but I’m surprised that the Flyers would be planning on him being available anytime soon.
