Okay, while it's true that there are far too many puckbunnies out there...not every woman is one. I understand where you are coming from, but a comment like that only makes you sound like a sexist pig. I grew up in a large hockey family, and I played hockey most of my life. Sure I think there are some hot players in the league, but so what? Any warm blooded female is going to think that...doesn't mean that's all we care about or all we know. Some of us watch hockey because it's a great game. We follow everything that's going on and understand it all. Women get offended by the stereotype because it's sexist and insulting. The point is, female fans deserve just as much respect as any male fan does. Just because we have vaginas instead of penises doesn't mean that we know any less about hockey, or that we are only fans because we think the players are hot. We can be just as hardcore and true of fans as males. So any men who want to be sexist pigs and say that women are nothing but puckbunnies, get over yourselves and deflate those egos.

Personally- I would love to dump Z and Martin. I don't think Martin was as bad as people think, I thought he was worse. His shot has zero velocity, he doesn't hit anyone and can only play the puck. He is awful, period. Z turned into a human crash test dummy and absorbed every hit thrown his way. Letang can play with an edge, but its 50-50 whether he actually does. They need a big Kubina, Sutton, Gil etc type of stay at home guy to compliment the core Orp, Letang, Nisk and Engelland. Strait and Depres should be rotating into the 6th position to see who blossoms. I wouldn't mind 2 stay at home guys. Martin and Z are both tradeable even with their injuries. That won't hold back any team. Dumping those 2 frees up a ton of $$$. The Flyers ran around because the Pens forwards didn't pursue the puck in the defensive zone. The Bylsma system of assuming the defenders would quickly get the puck up ice to the waiting forwards failed and when it did fail there were 5 Flyers coming in on Fleury and 2 defenders. They need tweeks not an overhaul, and keep Staal!

The concern about toughness on defense is fair - and I wouldn't trade both Orpik and Engelland for that reason (though Letang definitely plays with an edge as well).

But everyone seems to be missing my point about Michalek and Martin. While I don't think Martin is anywhere near as bad as people seem to think, I certainly wouldn't have any issues with trading either. I just don't think that they'll be able to. Who would trade for a guy that just had surgery a month ago? Who would trade for a guy who hasn't played since sustaining a concussion?

Orpik wasn't anywhere near as consistent or physical this year as he has been in the past, and even if you give him a pass for a terrible playoffs, he may very well be the only top-4 defenseman the Pens CAN trade - unless, as I said, they wait until M and M have proven they are healthy to start the season.

Sorry bmacalise, most of this makes no sense. Losing Orpik and Engelland would cost the Pens the bulk of their defensive hits and the only tough net clearing guys they have. They need more Orpik and no Martin who proved to be a a clone of the "scared to get hit" Goligoski. At least Goligoski had a decent shot when he actually took one. Everyone blames the defense when fact of the matter is that the FORWARDS let the Flyers run lose and were every bit as responsible for the poor play and that includes Staal. It was also a poorly coached series by the Pens. I say dump Martin and Z and add some grit.

I'd be shocked if they traded Orpik - I see your logic but really can't see them moving one of the two solid defensemen that they have (regardless of how they played in 6 games when a bunch of guys weren't playing well). I think its a low impact move like Martin to a team trying to hit the cap floor.

Dropping a defenseman (PLEASE trade Martin to a team trying to hit the cap floor) does mean that Strait and/or Despres will be on the big boy club next year. I like them both and think they could serve as a nice third pairing, or divvy them up with a couple of the vets.

I think the Staal stuff was kind of knee jerk after getting bounced from the playoffs. The only reason I see Staal being traded is if Carolina ante's up and sends the 8th pick, and one or both of their D line prospects (Faulk and whats-his-name). But who knows.

Didn't realize I changed my name to Sunshine. Maybe I should change careers to stripper?

I don't understand what your history has to deal with my feelings other than the fact that you live in Pittsburgh.

I'm sorry to hear that, never heard a girl that watches hockey (Including my girlfriend) ever care how they are stereotyped.

I made no excuses, that's what I have seen.

No problem with what woman say, or think, just making observations. When you sit behind someone at a game that won't watch the game unless Sid or Staal is on the ice, it tends to further the stereotype. Sorry if that offends you but I have seen it time and time again.

After watching him play a couple games last season, I can't complain. Despres played physical, stay at home hockey. I think this kid has a bright future in the NHL and that could all start with Martin getting the boot.

None of this is especially surprising. They need to move at least one defenseman to make room for Simon Despres, who will be a full-time NHLer this season.

It wouldn't surprise me if the defenseman they have to move is Orpik, since he has a good reputation, a low cap hit, veteran experience, and health. ZM can't be traded because he just had surgery. And Martin ended the season with a concussion. I'd be sad to see Brooks go, but he was uncharacteristically terrible in the playoffs, probably the worst defenseman over the course of the Flyers series. You've also got a completely expendable Ben Lovejoy, as well as Derek Engelland, who could actually be worth something on the market.

I also wouldn't be surprised to see a younger player go (in addition or very possibly instead) - Niskanen, Bortuzzo, Strait, maybe even Morrow or Harrington if the price is right. Shero's been stocking up young defensemen since he came to Pittsburgh because they are so useful on the trade market.

Given the LNT clauses of the older defenseman and their injury issues - I suspect the moves that Shero ultimately makes will not be the obvious. If he makes room for Despres over the summer (and hopefully Niskanen) - he could trade one of the older defensemen in Nov or Dec, after they show they are healthy and are past disappointing years last year. That would still clear up the cap room for Staal long before necessary. Given how tight the market for defensemen is this year, you could have some seriously desperate teams still hoping for the playoffs.
