The deal that simply HAS to happen because Burke has not totally destroyed the Leafs yet: Lupul, Scrivens, Kadri, the #5 pick, the #35 pick and next year’s 1st. Not sure about Lupul. Might need a good prospect instead. His NTC may or may not be applicable and he’s a UFA next summer anyway. Frattin, Ashton or Biggs might do.

are you insane? for one mdz, stepan are both 21/22 yrs old with a really high ceiling. anIsimov is still a baby too. then you add dubinsky and prospects on top of it too? they should just go after bobby ryan, give up a lot less, makes a lot less and his name is always rumored with the NYR. he’s also younger and has been just as good a goal scorer.

I think Nash gets moved by Friday. If a team is willing to offer a potential starting goaltender along with some decent players/prospects and a 1st, Howson has to take it. I believe San Jose has a lot to offer in the way of a trade. Pick one of Couture/Clowe, along with T.J. Galiardi, T. Greiss and M-E Vlasic and a 1st. CBJ would send Nash and M. Methot along with a 3rd or 4th and maybe A. York. No team is dumb enough, except Howson, to break up an entire team to trade for a player. Nash is great, don’t get me wrong, but what is the point of having him if you dismantle the entire team for the trade.

I’ve been saying it since early this year, Columbus is asking far too much for Nash. Hes a good player that has two 40 goal seasons and a 79 point season… but his average is closer to 30 goals, 65 points. Those are good numbers, but not super star quality…. and columbus is asking super star price.

Its not impossible to think Columbus will get its price since the market for high scoring forwards is going to be thin this year (and Glenn Sather is an idiot)… but it also wouldn’t be a suprise if the price comes down a lot.

It is hard to find many wingers that make the other 4 skaters on the ice better…. Most wingers have a selfish attitude and shoot first, Nash plays a great game as a power forward…. I feel as if we are comparing Nash to a centermans role. Nash does make others on the ice better by scoring goals, and to be fair, he hasn’t had many set him up with Christmas presents in front of the net. Nash seriously needs a dominate center to play with, he only gets to each summer during world chamionships.

I think his best trading partner would be Tampa if Columbus is willing to take some of their cap hits. Tampa has plenty of prospects sitting in their AHL squad, and still has an additional first round pick, … Stamkos and Nash!!!!!

I think it is insane how much he wants for Nash, because then that leaves the buying team in no position to build around him. What’s the sense in buying the Ferrari if you can’t afford the tires. I will say i do think it’s a little unfair to say that Nash is overpaid if you look at it from the perspective of who makes a similar salary. Iginila, Vanek, Lecavalier, Heatley,Gaborik,Eric Stall,Gomez. All great players but are they head and shoulders above Nash? They all may be overpaid compared to other players, but he is what would be considered market value.

Unfortunately for Nash he’s not even a perennial 70 point man, he’s only hit that mark once in his 9 year career. But he did play with some good players at the Olympics so according to some that shows he’s one of the all-time greats.

Your arrogance is awesome oh wise one. Nash can score when he has someone to make him good, so when he’s with good players yes he’s a top 6 forward, But he’s not a superstar because he’s not able to make other players better. There’s a large difference between being a top 6 forward on a national team and being a top 15-20 player in the world…I’m sure a hockey expert like yourself knows that though.

Nash is a good player, but he’s not a superstar and doesn’t warrant the amount that Columbus is asking especially when you throw in his $7.8 million cap hit.

I think if the Leafs come at the Jackets with Schenn, Colborne and the #5 pick, the Jackets would probably take that deal. I don’t know who or what Philly would offer after JVR. The Rangers have a lot to discuss. Unless Logan Couture and Joe Pavelski are involved in the talks with San Jose, I can’t see Howson being interested.

You all will be surprised with what the Jackets get for Rick Nash. I’m not saying they’re going to get McDonagh, Stepan, Kreider and Erixon from the Rangers, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they get Stepan and Erixon. But I see one thing happening right now that could ultimately net the Jackets two quality players and two good prospects: bidding war. And it’ll happen, with so many teams involved, it’ll happen. And Nash will absolutely get dealt.

As for the Jack Johnson hate, the dude has been awesome since he’s in been in Columbus. Him and James Wisniewski are a leadership group looking for accountability in the lockerroom, and he played like a stud for the month he was around. I hope the Jackets give him the C after sir Nash has left.

But the Jackets will get what they’re looking for. Wait and see.

Agree, although I’d say his problem is more not being realistic in what he can ask for in return. I don’t know that you can over-value your franchise player, especially when multiple teams are after him. I think Columbus has to move him, that’s too big a contract to risk alienating to the point where he’s just going through the motions & Columbus knows Howson’s not the GM that can rebuild that team anyway. Contending teams are the only teams that would take on that contract, & they certainly aren’t going to deplete their depth to do it. Yeah asking for top prospects is fine, but honestly if they HAD top prospects to spare they wouldn’t be so interested in Nash in the first place. 1st round picks, maybe prospects, a young NHL ready player. If I were Columbus I’d ask more for draft picks, then replace Howson with a GM that can actually use them competently.

If I want a perennial 30-goal, 70-point man, I’ll get one at market value – not half my prospect pool and a chunk of my roster for a $7.8m underachiever whose contract I’d pretty much have to build the damn team around. Rick Nash is overpaid, overrated, and overvalued. Howson’s the only person on Earth who thinks he’s gonna get that ransom going the other way.

He is the worst gm a couple years ago the wings wanted Federov he was at the end of his career and was a ufa and he wanted Filpulla and a first rounder he asks way to much I wouldn’t be surprised if Nash isn’t moved because of his asking price. Nash is a top 10 F in the league. But I would say only the top 3 players in the league are worth that much.

I say 2-3 prospects and a quality player with a high salary for him.

Not for nothing, but where Team Canada places Nash is utterly irrevalent, look at the roster. Its all who Babcock wants to shove in there.

Barkar: you basically want Sather to deal average Fs at best, and then trade NONE of your top prospects for Nash? Lol…. Only way the Rangers get him is if Kreider, and either Stepan or Erixon are involved as well. If I was the Rangers, I would not even bother. The Rangers lack depth, not top line talent.

Ummm franchise…, no one is saying he is not good, just saying is it worth trading 4 or 5 good players (example to the rangers, Dubinsky, del z, Stephan and more) to take on a nearly 8 mill cap hit for a guy who isn’t young anymore and will be a giant cap hit till 2018.
Depth wins cups, I would take that rangers package anyday over Nash.

Btw I agree with you on JJ. He is a cancer in the locker room. Decent player but nothing special.

As a Wild fan, I do not want Nash. Both Koivu and Nash make about the same $$$ and put up near a point per game… the difference in the two players, Nash stays healthy, but Koivu plays a more important role (2way centerman). Bad trade for the Wild. I do think Nash is the better player but the trade makes no sense to me. If Koivu is our best center and we trade him away, we are left with nothing at the most important forward position.

as for Howson, there is no hurry to force a trade, he can be patient going into the draft. He will get a better offer in the next few days than he is getting now. One GM will offer another prospect or draft pick to get it done… I do not think Nash is worth the haul his is asking, but they will meet in the middle.

Top 6 forward for the country that has the best players and especially forwards in the world.

Duby, Anisimov, Stepan and DelZ for Nash. Perhaps no Stepan and two top prospects not named Kreider.
Could be a three way deal with Ottowa since they have Bishop and Columbus wants a goalie.
