Jordin Tootoo, Preds aren’t close to an extension

Although Ryan Suter is by far the Nashville Predators most noteworthy pending unrestricted free agent, he’s certainly not the only one. Jordin Tootoo has spent his entire eight-season NHL career with the Nashville Predators, but that could be coming to an end.

According to The Tennessean, Predators GM David Poile spoke with Tootoo’s agent, but the two sides aren’t close to agreeing to terms. Part of the issue might be that Tootoo was only used in three of Nashville’s 10 playoff games.

“There’s a little difference of opinion because he didn’t play at the end of the year and in the playoffs,” Poile said. “I’m not sure where that’s going right now. But we need to have more conversations on that.”

Tootoo brings a physical presence and he’s capable of chipping in offensively. He had a career-high 30 points in 77 games in 2011-12.

He’s coming off a two-year, $2,500,000 contract and shouldn’t have much trouble finding work if he decides to test the free agent waters.

I love Tootoo as a Nashville fan, but I’d just like to see him step his game up some more if he’s going to keep with us. Great guy and I’m glad to see he went through rehab. Who knows, maybe now that he’s off the drink he’ll have a stellar next season? We’ll see! Hopeful he returns to Nashville.

Hard to imagine the Preds without Tootoo.

I’d love to imagine the Preds with out him, he’s an embarrassment to the team and league. And of course he didn’t play in the playoffs, he lacks latent and discipline.

Awesomers…….your an idiot. Tootoo is a Nashville fan favorite and would be sorely missed.

He’d be an immediate fan favorite for any market that signs him. I’d love to see him sign for a western Canadian team, but that’s purely so I could watch him regularly. As Don Cherry would say, “He’s a beaut!”

(I realize Nashville is in the Western Conference, but CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada shows two games every Saturday during the season, and they try to show as many Canadian teams as possible on HNIC.)

2.5 mil to be a fan favorite? What a deal. Do yourselves a favor Preds fans, don’t get emotionally attached to the players. They can do a lot better for the money. I think as a hockey player he’s a joke.

Fan favorite, chips in offensively, and agitates the hell out of other teams causing them to take stupid penalties. Well worth what is being paid.
