Part of the reason the Kings attendance was hurt this year, was because the arenas in Europe are smaller than the Staples Center, so that hurts their home attendance, especially since both of their games were considered home games. Similar comparison can be made to the teams that host the Winter Classic, this year the Flyers were #1 because the Winter Classic held 71,000+ fans. A bit more than the usual 18,000+ the Wells Fargo Center holds.

As for mcmuprhy22′s road comparison to Boston, Boston doesn’t play in places like Phoenix and Dallas that struggle to sell out on a regular basis, where as teams on the east coast generally have a better attendance record.

Elite fan bases?? What about the years when the Flyers were horrible? There was no one there? Philly fans (in all sports) are the most fair weather fans of them all. Sure, the Flyers have been playing well the past couple of years, so their fans base is really good too, but no one talked about the Flyers until their Cup run in ’10. I will give Flyers fans credit, but only so much to say that they are better than the Eagles and the Phillies fans.

I don’t know what a good # for a parade attendance is, but traffic is insane in LA, and getting to the Staples center at noon, is near impossible on a regular day, much less on a Parade day. Besides, it’s been noted before that when the Lakers won, LA still isn’t that big of a Parade city, it’s just not their thing.

And in case you are wondering, I am originally from LA, but have lived in Bucks Co since the summer of 2003.

We have a great fan base, so much so that a large number of people FLEW IN solely to witness the parade and fan rally.

The Staples Center was filled to capacity for the fan rally with large numbers being frozen out. I think the ownership group learned their lesson and for next season’s fan rally will probably use the Coliseum or Dodger Stadium. Fill each of those babies up too.

Sorry you felt that 250,000 for a parade is a “pathetic” number. Most Kings fans work for a living and couldn’t attend. As for myself, I took a little heat for taking the day off, but I have been waiting 44½ years for this myself…wasn’t about to miss it.

Wait, do most people think the kings have a good fan base? I mean I’m a flyers fan so I don’t know what you mean since we are one of the elite fan bases over the past 10 year. The only teams to have solid attendance are DET, Montreal, Philly and toronto.
To me they are the most loyal bases in the league, little bandwagoners, high on hardcores. I mean 250,000 fans for a parade? Wow, pathetic.
Any way so happy the kings won but to say they have a good fan base is a long shot.

I imagine the Kings might have a fair few fans that lost interest, but this Cup run has most definitely generated them some new fans to swell their fanbase.

I don’t see them having ‘fairweather’ fans anything like…Atlanta, for example. That’s the reason they’ve lost two hockey franchises now. No one wanted to watch the team unless they were doing amazingly well. Los Angeles has a lot of good, solid fans and I think they’ll be just fine.

Yea I see this basically as just something to post with the season over.

But ranking teams by attendance like that skews the data a bit, the Kings look to “outdraw” a team like Boston, but Bostons average home attendance is actually 1 person under maximum capacity for the Garden, while their road draw as greater than the Kings.

The Kings sold out every game but 3, and those games were within a couple of hundred of selling out themselves.

These two clowns have no idea what they are talking about…the real giveaway is when the female caster started throwing out the too-tired and long-used “fair weather fans” and “its a Laker town” kind of baloney.

who are these clowns? “disinterested fanbase”…”what about Kings regular season games?”….”fair-weather fans”…”can you stick with the team during the regular season?”

this season, the Kings were 15th in the league in attendance and outdrew teams like Minnesota, Edmonton, Colorado, Winnipeg, the Islanders, BOSTON, and – oh by the way – NEW JERSEY. last season they were 14th in attendance…

utter plebs with no grasp of the FACTS should keep their uneducated gobs shut.
