Report: Suter not interested in joining the Flyers

Jun 14, 2012, 1:33 PM EDT

Ryan Suter doesn’t want to play for the Flyers, a “well-placed” source told CSNPhilly.com’s Tim Panaccio.

According to the report, Suter has compiled a list of teams – all of them in the Western Conference – he’d be willing to talk to should his rights be traded by the Nashville Predators prior to July 1.

There was speculation the pending UFA defenseman could be targeted by Philadelphia given Chris Pronger’s uncertain future (out indefinitely with a concussion) and Kimmo Timonen’s age (37).

Sounds good to this Penguins fan.

    • greatminnesotasportsmind - Jun 14, 2012 at 1:55 PM

What part of Suter’s list was all Western Conference teams did you miss? Or did I miss Pittsburgh moved to the Western Conference?

But I will give you the benefit of the doubt your rejoicing because Suter isn’t interested in the better of the two Pennsylvania teams.

      • crosberries - Jun 14, 2012 at 2:07 PM

I think you missed on his comment simply saying that he’s just happy he isn’t going to the flyers. Has nothing to do with him possibly coming to Pittsburgh we don’t have the cap room anyways. Your crappy team does but neither parise or suter will be going there.

      • killerpgh - Jun 14, 2012 at 2:34 PM

I’m gonna go out on a limb and say you are not a great sports mind like your screen name says. If you can figure out way a fan would be happy that a division rival is not (probably) getting the top defensive free agent then it might be time to stop watching hockey.

      • greatminnesotasportsmind - Jun 14, 2012 at 3:37 PM

Clearly everyone skipped over the last part of my comment.

      • crosberries - Jun 14, 2012 at 4:10 PM

Then there was no need for the first part because it just made you sound stupid

      • obamablowz - Jun 14, 2012 at 5:31 PM

Proving there is no sports mind in minnesota!!!! idiot

    • lordfletcher - Jun 14, 2012 at 2:55 PM

Suter is going to one of 4 teams. Detroit / Wild / Blues / Preds

He wants to stay return home close to WI and be in the MidWest. I would say Detroit or Wild, possible Blues and I think we all agree Nashville blew their chance last season

He is from WI, wife MN, has a farm in WI, loves the midwest life style. No chance he goes out East, that is the cold hard facts folks.

      Wings or Wild….. maybe Blues

      • lordfletcher - Jun 14, 2012 at 2:57 PM

Looks like I too skiped over the first comment, sorry Pens fan. My bad!

      • lordfletcher - Jun 14, 2012 at 3:06 PM

also looks like I skipped right over the article. SORRY AGAIN

Wings and Wild should be on the phone with Nashville right now!!!!!!!

Fletcher, give them our 2nd round pick from Washington.

        get it done!!!!!!!

    • redux12 - Jun 14, 2012 at 5:26 PM

Why would it sound good to you? He’s overrated..

    • eigglesnosuperbowls - Jun 14, 2012 at 6:59 PM

Where does he play now ?

  2. theawesomersfranchise - Jun 14, 2012 at 1:41 PM

Sounds even better to a Red Wings fan.

    No no Flyers, not interested
    Ouch

  3. thesportsguru7 - Jun 14, 2012 at 1:42 PM

If he doesn’t want to play for the Flyers, than I don’t want him here.

    • theawesomersfranchise - Jun 14, 2012 at 1:45 PM

Translated “No No, Im breaking up with you, not you breaking up with me”

      • thesportsguru7 - Jun 14, 2012 at 1:54 PM

        Damn right!

      • theawesomersfranchise - Jun 14, 2012 at 1:57 PM

LOL At least we get the truth from Guru.
Waiting for Broadstreet to chime in about this being Suter’s loss and how he never wanted him in the first place.

      • thesportsguru7 - Jun 14, 2012 at 2:02 PM

Who wouldn’t want Suter? He’s a great player for sure, but again if he doesn’t want to play for the Flyers, than the Flyers can find somebody else who does want to be there.

    • obamablowz - Jun 14, 2012 at 5:34 PM

I don’t think he said he’s not interested in playing for the Flyers. I think he just gave a list of 4 teams he would feel comfortable with. Isn’t that big of a deal people.

  4. aphoticapex - Jun 14, 2012 at 2:05 PM

It’s starting to look like a pipe dream, but I REALLY hope that the Preds can pull something together to keep him and Webs in Nashville.

  5. riotact13 - Jun 14, 2012 at 2:05 PM

    Much rather have Weber anyway

  6. davebabychreturns - Jun 14, 2012 at 2:08 PM

Gotta wonder how long that list is; if the Preds can do something to get him out of the Central division they should probably do what it takes to get it done.

    • bensawesomeness - Jun 14, 2012 at 11:21 PM

which wont matter if the divisions realighn, unless he goes out way west

  7. aosplayo - Jun 14, 2012 at 2:09 PM

Good. Id take Carle at 4.5 or even 5 over Suter at 7. Now Weber on the other hand….i have a feeling he’s plan A anyways.

    • lordfletcher - Jun 14, 2012 at 3:00 PM

Carle isn’t a lock to stay in a Flyers uni.

I would start getting worried if I were you

      • aosplayo - Jun 14, 2012 at 3:13 PM

Actually talks have been going well. Can’t announce anything till July 1 anyway, same with Jagr. Either way Carle doesn’t make or break the team.

      • atwatercrushesokoye - Jun 14, 2012 at 5:46 PM

You can announce resigning of your own players at any time as long as they’re going to be free agents that year, contract extensions for players who have a contract expiring after next season can’t be announced until after July 1st. Both Jagr and Carle are UFA, the Flyers can sign them and announce whenever they want…the question would be whether that’s smart to do before the cap has been officially set?

      • lordfletcher - Jun 14, 2012 at 7:57 PM

@aosplayo ….. sure talks are going well, and sure their not… if they were going great he would have signed already, and or during the season, who knows. You are not the player or GM, and it’s hard to trust every beat reporter in the business.

Carle would but stupid to not test the waters on frenzy day, unless he is 100% wanting to stay in Flyer land. He would be taking a discount to stay because someone else would offer more money.

  8. chasemutley - Jun 14, 2012 at 2:26 PM

If our ‘crappy’ team took out Pittsburg, what does that make them? Hmmm

    • killerpgh - Jun 14, 2012 at 2:53 PM

Pittsburgh has an “h” at the end of it. I haven’t seen anyone call the Flyers a crappy team on they thread. He was talking to the Wild fan.

  9. jimw81 - Jun 14, 2012 at 2:34 PM

I rather have Weber anyway. He’s only defenseman who can fill pronger’s role. Plus, Tim Panaccio is worst beat writer for flyers.

  10. broadstbully33 - Jun 14, 2012 at 2:51 PM

suter is a minor upgrade over carle not worth 7 mill hell ask for….plus philly is going after weber

  11. smushrodriguez - Jun 14, 2012 at 2:57 PM

I wouldn’t blame a defenseman for not wanting to play in Philly. The Flyers hang their defenseman out to dry with their system. The Flyers need to get better at team defense, not just add a defenseman. (I am a Flyers fan). Flyers should look at the Kings system and mimic that since it is similar but the forwards have defensive responsibility ( Carter was great) and win more face offs. Would love to get Weber.

  12. mclovinhockey - Jun 14, 2012 at 3:01 PM

Thank god… I don’t want him in Philly cause we would overpay him to death. He is going to get about 7 mill at least and WITHOUT WEBER helping him, his number are WORSE than Carle. So Carle for about 4 mill vs Suter for 7… I’ll take Carle any day.

  13. flyeredup202 - Jun 14, 2012 at 3:13 PM

We already have a suter in Philly his name is Matt carle he is awesome when with a great defenseman paired with him but horrible when his the rock to be leaned on.

  14. flyeredup202 - Jun 14, 2012 at 3:23 PM

Carle jagr pronger all gone sign webber bring up guffer or bourdon we have a lot of decent d men that can play well learning from kimmo and Shea….. Our de can onllllllllly get better this offseason we have the offense just need to stop the bleeding on de

  15. mclovinhockey - Jun 14, 2012 at 4:15 PM

Carle said he will take a paycut to stay in Philly… I love the young D core. Manning is going to be well later, Gus really showed how great he can be.

  16. davebabychreturns - Jun 14, 2012 at 4:43 PM

People seriously think Matt Carle is comparable to Ryan Suter? He’s a good young player, but…

  17. dawglb - Jun 14, 2012 at 5:05 PM

If all his choices are Western Conference teams, he apparently is saying the he is not interested in ANY teams in the East. So, take ” Flyers” out and plug in “Pens”, “Caps”, “Habs”,…… Less of an “ouch” for the Flyers.

  18. crazemastercraze - Jun 14, 2012 at 7:53 PM

he’s no dummy. everyone not a flyers fan realizes what a total joke they are, top to bottom.

  19. jagrbomb18 - Jun 15, 2012 at 2:10 AM

Panaccio is the worst…I blame him for Richards and (not that I care) carter being trading
