After just losing in the SCF, why would Parise go to a team that will pay him $7.5 / $8 mill annually only to miss the playoffs year-over-year?

Detroit has the edge here considering the history, the foundation of the team, a great coaching staff, and the winning tradition.

I agree Parise / Suter are a package deal, but there's more to life than money.

Interview from 1500 ESPN
Lou Nanne, former player, GM, coach, and commentator was on 2 Twin Cities radio stations today and he stated the Wild will "throw the kitchen sink" at Parise and" there is a good chance" he ends up in Minnesota because he doesn't see anybody in the NHL willing giving him as much as the Wild will and he "will not be surprised if Zach Parise came home to the Minnesota Wild."

He also stated the Wild will be in on 2 big name players. Parise and Suter. They will do "everything in their power to get them" He talked to Wild owner Craig Leipold and "they definately can get both." Rangers, Pittsburgh, Detroit, and Florida will be going after Parise, but the Wild are willing to out spend all of them.

Interview from KFAN
Nanne "doesn't see how Parise is not coming here (Minnesota). No one is going to outbid the Wild." Parise "will sign for a lot more than expected (everyone was guessing even on this site 7.5 to 8 million)" The Wild's offer will be so "substancially more than anyone else he can't see Parise turning it down"

My Thoughts
Now knowing how invested the Wild are in on Parise and knowing they are prepared to make Parise an offer he can't refuse and how Nashville's GM David Poile's past history of trading pending UFA negotiating rights, my guess is the Wild will swing a deal with Nashvillle to get ahead of Detroit and and anyone else for Suter. That is how the Wild will get both Parise and Suter.
