This speculation is pretty much nonsense at this time of the year. It’s just an activity for the brain dead (witnessed by some of the comments on here)
More importantly, I want the NHL to tell me why I should give a crap about the first 82 games, when as the Kings proved, all you have to do is get in. All that BS about getting in as third seed, fourth….what a bunch of garbage. So why waste my time, energy and money on paying attention to the regular season? Tell me NHL, WHY?

Just like in horse racing these are preliminary odds. Depending on how the bookmaking goes these current odds could be quite different in just a couple of weeks, let alone by next season.If your favorite team has long odds, but you still like their chances (and like to bet your hard-earned money), get your bet in now. Should your team do well the odds it will win it all will climb and you won’t get the same long-shot deal on a bet. This is such a crapshoot I think I’d rather lose my dough playing the lottery. It’s still fun to read the commentary on here….

Blows my mind. Two days after LA hoists the cup they aren’t considered the favorites to win next year? I’m not even an LA fan and I think that’s a bit harsh. In no way shape or form should Pittsburgh be considered the favorite. They have some great players but were bounced in the first round this off season. Prior to any off season moves, it should be; LA, NJ, Nashville, NYR, St. Louis, Pitt and then maybe Philly.

We’ve heard this song before… in fact we heard it a couple months ago just before the Pens were strait up man handled in the first round. People should have learned a ton from not only the Pens being blown out, but by how the rest of the playoffs shaped up. There are huge reasons to think the Pens not only won’t win the cup next year, but are probably destined for another first round blowout. Their lack of defense in a league where defense wins championships, a middle of the pack goalie at best, and huge question marks hanging over their top two players not the least of them. To that last point no one knows if Crosby will be able to play injury free hockey, and Malkin has had huge let downs after big seasons in the past… can he avoid that this year?

I actually think the Rangers are just as likely to win the cup next season as Pens, if not more so. Both teams are going to have a hard time since the East is likely to be tough as all hell this year… but look at the facts: The Rangers actually were the top seed in the East this year. They made it to the ECF instead of getting blown out in the first round. Most of their players are still under contract. Their goalie is far better. Their defense is far better. The Rangers have a weaker offense, however the addition of Kreider and possibly another top player (Parise/Nash?) will make the Rangers an offenseive threat none the less. The only area the Pens really top the Rangers is in offense, and as we know… offense alone does not win the Cup (just ask Washington).

So really, I wouldn’t lay down big money on the Pens….

They’re Vegas odds. It would be silly to put any stock in it.

Are there things to like about Pittsburgh? Certainly – two outstanding centers as well as another strong center who if he isn’t in a Pittsburgh uniform next year will likely have brought back some solid pieces in return. A lot of scoring talent from the likes of Neal, Kunitz, and the like. A smart and savvy head coach who’s done it before.

Are there things to be worried about? Certainly – will the addition of Vokun allow Fleury to rest more often? Was being overworked even the reason he was inconsistent? Has the defense that has been a strength for the majority of the last two seasons lost its identity?

The fact of the matter is this – its Vegas. The longer they have odds open for something, the more bets can be put down and the more money they can collect. They’ve got to start somewhere. Is Pittsburgh on top the right choice? You could make an argument – but I would say arguing over this is reallllly dumb.

And i have to say i really do not like the Devils, despise them quite a bit (I am a Flyers fan), but having them closer to the bottom half after they just got finished with the finals is pretty disrespectful. I know odds often do not have much to do with facts but rather who will put their money where, but having the Devils at 30/1 seems awfully silly considering the run they had

Philly should not have kept carter and Richards. They would have had to CARRRY the team. If you watched flyers hockey you would know they are not capable of that especially carter. Richards got the C and was weighed down by it. Much better being one of the guys. Carter will score goals,wont lead,won’t hit,won’t kill a penalty, won’t forecheck,back check. Their perfect where their at. If anything Flyers were at fault thinking they were more than they are, luckily so did others and we got something in return. Love gagne but don’t think he did much since he left. In Philly they were the face, in LA they were depth. Without Quick this is all moot

Who put these odds together? I’m absolutely convinced that the commercial promoters of the NHL just want to see Crosby raise a cup. That’s going to be tough, even for Crosby, being in the most competitive division in the NHL, consistently sending 4 of its 5 teams into the playoffs. When you have to play 18 of your regular season games against the Flyers, Devils, and Rangers, it will put any team at a significant disadvantage going into the playoffs. Add to that a good chance of encountering at least one of the 3 in the playoffs themselves (maybe even 2), I think Pittsburgh’s chances are highly overstated.
