Burke rips CBC for spreading Schenn rumors

Seems like it’s been a while since we heard from Brian Burke. However, the Maple Leafs’ GM couldn’t stay silent after Hockey Night in Canada’s Elliott Friedman reported there were “rumblings that Toronto will offer Luke Schenn to Edmonton for a swap of first-rounders” in his weekly column for CBC.ca.

Friedman’s report quickly made the rounds on Twitter, message boards and tremendous hockey blogs, much to the dismay of Burke.

“Typical of Hockey Night,” he told the Toronto Star. “I have never discussed this trade or any trade involving Luke Schenn to Edmonton.”

Burke added: “Some editorial control at Hockey Night would be nice for a change.”

Of course, this isn’t the first time Burke has taken issue with HNIC…

I wouldn’t be surprised if he seeded the rumour himself, in hope of finding a stupid enough dance partner. Not good enough for TOR, but a hugely valuable trade bait?

My guess is he actually has talked and just is pissed it got out. Welcome to the 21st century where news travels fast. Imagine if the internet and twitter were around in 88 when Gretzky was traded. Burke needs to chill. Everything is always someones fault and they are out to get him.

To quote Kevin Lowe, this guy is a “media whore.”

I wonder if he regrets not taking those four first round draft choices at the trade deadline? Eye roll.

Burke had tried to get several media members in Vancouver fired many years ago. Seems things never change. He should focus on his train-wreck of a hockey team instead of what Elliot Friedman is saying.

FYI, Friedman’s 30 Thoughts column is a must-read for any hockey fan.

But has Edmonton discussed this type of deal with you Mr Burke? Who cares anyway. He needs to concentrate on making this team better and not worry about every rumor, especially in TO.

Leave Cherry alone! If the Leafs didn’t choke then everything would be fine?

Hey Burke are you dating Cynthia Crosby cause I see a lit of cheese going with your wine! You big cry baby!

Wouldn’t it been nice to squeak into the playoffs and win the cup? Hey Brian ask the Kings?

Burke has proven me wrong. I used to think he was a good GM. I also thought he would make something out of the Leafs. Instead the teams he makes these big moves with end up winning cups (can anyone say The Bruins).

CBC are doing their job a lot better than you’re doing yours, Burke.

You’re heading up the most disgraceful era in the history of the most popular hockey team in the world, with revenues greater than any club, and a green light maximum bankroll to assemble a team.

All I hear from this guy now is “blah blah blah, I’m Brian Burke, who are you?”
