I’m all for signing Lats to a reasonable, performance/health oriented deal. They need what he offers if he’s able to stay healthy. The future is bright in St. Paul. Let’s go Wild.

If I were Chuck Fletcher, I’d give him a $1M base salary with a chance to earn $1M in bonuses. $500K for more than 65 games played. $500K for 30+ goals or 50+ points.

The beautiful thing is the Wild have all of the leverage in this situation. They won’t qualify Latendresse at $2.5M and that’s a strong indication they won’t offer him close to that even if you do add in performance bonuses. Worst case for the Wild, you pay him less, and he gets injured again. This year they’ll have the depth to deal with injuries better. Best case, he returns to his line with Bouchard and Cullen and lights it up for cheap the entire season.

I really hope Fletcher offers Latendresse a deal to stay with Minnesota but a deal that is not worth his tender.

25+ goal scorers do not fall off of trees, especially in Minnesota but there are real concerns with his health and attitude towards his conditioning from years past….

unless the Wild somehow are able to get both Parise and Suter in FA and run out of cash, please sign Latendresse.
