Travis Hughes passes along word from the Los Angeles Daily News that the Los Angeles Police Department is “preparing for the inevitable” shenanigans if the Los Angeles Kings capture the Stanley Cup tonight. In other words, the LAPD says that they’re taking “extraordinary measures” to limit or avoid a riot following Game 6.

Bob Strauss reports that officials will close streets as the night goes along in an attempt to prevent nonsense.

“We will be patrolling for crime prevention,” LAPD media relations officer Cleon Joseph said. “We’re going to have undercover details. We’re going to have field jails, mounted bike units, horse, scalping details. We’re just looking out for every little thing so that we can keep the peace.”

“We just want everybody to have a good time.”

Strauss notes that riots broke out after the Los Angeles Lakers won titles in 2009 and 2010. As you may remember, Vancouver erupted in an ugly scene after the Canucks lost Game 7 of the 2011 Stanley Cup finals (pictured), although a Kings’ Game 6 loss probably wouldn’t inspire the same kind of anger.

    Burn it down!

    Let the mf’r burn.

Nothing good ever comes out of LA.

Oh that’s not a very nice thing to say. Besides, Marilyn Monroe was from L.A., and she was great! Sally Ride, too. And quite a few others! Paul Winfield, Darryl Strawberry…

They might want to take Steve Bernier and Dan O’Rourke into protective custody to avoid a potential lynching.

  3. sportsfreak13 - Jun 11, 2012 at 9:25 PM

Anybody who blames either bernier or Dan O’rourke for losing this series need to remember the devils lost the first 3 games.

Oh, so because the Devils lost three games, that makes it ok to gift LA game 4 on a boneheaded penalty?

Might as well make it a best of five series! I guess 3 wins are enough.

Enjoy your forever Stanley Cup*, LA.

I suppose its the refs fault that the devils have 5 shots with 8minutes left in the second?

Good luck LAPD. I hope they didn’t get any advice from the Vancouver PD. And there’s no reason anything after the game should be more exciting than the affair on the ice. Six games, and with a 4-0 lead we can safely say, zero lead changes, team to score first won all 6. I have to agree with Marcel Dionne and Scotty Bowman, nice for LA, but not the most exciting hockey we’ve ever seen. Baseball season! And soon, Wimbledon and Olympics!

LA is going to party tonight! So glad that I am no where near SoCal tonight!

LA has had a man advantage for basically the whole game. Sure, they won 3 games in the series, but game 4 is a gift. Will the refs get their names engraved on the Cup next to that *?

Well, if NJ’s pk would have played a little harder, it might not have ended up this way. U mad, bro?

    Vindicatus,

    Really, youre embarassing yourself.

Honestly people…I am a jersey fan…I hate to say it but the 5 minute penalty was the right call. When the dust settles we will all realize that the Kings won this fair and square. Congrats to them. This one is over.

thank you for being a sensible fan!

Well, it finally took a 10 vs 6 advantage against the Devils for them to lose. Congrats on the Stanley Cup* win, LA. Hopefully it doesn’t take another 45 years of irrelevance to win the next one.
