I would debate his ability to pass. When have you ever seen him make a nice breakout pass or find the open guy. His best passes are usually shots that get blocked and deflected to players around the net, and they are certainly not by design. He can make a pass here or there on the power play because of the talent around him. He is not the guy they are looking to cover. No one is gonna flock to Carle with Giroux, Voracek or Briere on the ice. He is always going to have more passing lanes with those guys on the ice. His exposure really started the second half of last year when Pronger was out for an extended period of time. Mesarzos is good, but to irresponsible defensively to carry Carle. I think you are dead on with everything else including stick handling. If he was a better and faster skater, his stick handling abilities would be much more evident.

Carle can pass and has good stick handling skills, but his main problem is playing defense. I guess when you play the position you don’t really have to learn how to actually play it. Carle may have the offensive stats as some other players, but he’s horrible when it comes to marking up forwards, playing up on them, or clearing the puck. He’s been helped out a lot by the play of Pronger. When Pronger got hurt, see you later Carle. Majorly exposed this season without Pronger. They need to cut ties with him and develop our younger guys that looked good.

Oh and I agree with bully.. 4 year deal at 4 mill a year would be acceptable, he will get similar deals as grossman (love the guy but he played the best hockey of his life since coming here so the big contract may have been jumping the gun) and coburn (the flyer whose been on Philly the longest)

Wow drunkbro, you must be drunk…. Bro, because you just said you would give suter 5-6 yet said you would not give what we pay pronger which is 4.9 on average. Yeah looks at the stats for suter and Carle and tell me if anything stands out besides turnovers… Everything else is nearly identical, in fact most of the other numbers have Carle in front of suter.
If you think suter would take 5.5 a year and not have better offers (Detroit, Toronto and may other have a ton more cap space than us and would easily offer at least 6.5 for him) then you are crazy. Not to mention suter and Carle also are similar in how both their number go down when not playing with a monster all star D (weber and pronger respectively) so do you take the risk of putting more money out for a guy (weber will get even more cash, is a RFA so it would cost us picks and his numbers also drop when not playing with suter) who you would really be taking a risk with??

Sorry for the long post, I just am a huge stat man so I wanted to post all the facts before you make up your mind.

I hope he goes elsewhere. His turnovers, failed clears, and blown coverages are not enough to compensate for his 35 points. As drunkbro put it, he looked a lot better next to Pronger. I knew he was weak sauce before we got Pronger, and he is weak sauce again.

identical? that is a huge stretch. suter isnt worth 7-9 mil. hes worth 5-6 i’d say, which he makes for a solid shutdown dman. i understand in this market suter’s value is driven up, but i dont think the flyers would pay him what they gave pronger. i cant see anyone giving him 7-9 million, thats ludicrous, now shea weber on the other hand i can see happening

I love the people who say Carle is a bum then want to get suter for 7-9 mill a year. Not looking at stats… Those two are identical players minus the turn overs… To say 3-5 mill a year I will take the 20 extra turnovers a season.

oh please, youre probably looking at his stats with his 35 secondary assists.. he is a turnover machine and is not worth the contract he was making. pronger made him look like an all star when they were paired together. if he gets paid 2 mil per year i’d consider it
