Yes I am aware that someone on the internet (stop the presses! NEWSFLASH) said something racist. Yes that person MIGHT have been from Boston, most likely was. That doesn’t make an entire city/ethnicity racist.

Irish Catholics by definition cannot join the KKK. The KKK is a White Anglo Saxon PROTESTANT group. Catholics and Irish immigrants were targeted by the KKK in the early 20th century.

It’s time to put this show to bed. Thomas will always be remembered fondly here for leading the cup run, but the distraction is now too much. No matter how the team glossed it over, his antics last year got bad. He’s also doing a great disservice to hockey fans as a whole, great game last night, but here we are talking about this crap and mixing politics with hockey (UGH!!!!). So thanks for the memories Tim, best of luck where ever your ship lands. Bring on Tuuka time in Boston!!!!!

I took a look through it today, it went beyond being entertained by lunacy and straight to “make your skin crawl” repulsion in about 10 minutes.

Obviously sites and their contributors can’t be held totally accountable for the actions and words of their audiences, but as soon as I started going through the articles and comment sections (Advertisers as well actually, which they are 100% accountable for.) I actually felt physically dirty from the stream of bigotry, outright racism, and blind ideological political faith that is so clearly based on nothing more than tired cliches and empty talking points.

I’ve tried to not let Thomas’ political affiliations affect how I think of him as a man (and obviously an athlete) but I’ve got to question the character of anyone who aligns themselves with something that hateful and so clearly intent on spreading propaganda.

What gets me is if he doers take a year off he still gets his 5 million. The problem with pro athletes is they make way touch money. I’m damn good at my job, make way less then them and work hard for 60 hrs a week. But if I decided to take a year off ( personal reasons or not) my family would starve. Now,one could say that’s life and I’d agree to an extent. My issue with this answer is that a teacher, fireman, police officer a doctor ,the list goes on, do not make not anywhere close to the league minimum. Just so we are clear their jobs are essential and Tim’s is not. This topic has bugged me for a long time and will continue too. Idea; pay those guys a max of 200,000 a year and lower the ticket and concession prices, make the game affordable for the average person to enjoy live after all the only way to watch hockey is live.

It’s a hockey blog. People who come here should care if the goalie of the (technically) defending Cup champs wants to disappear for a year.

The issue here isn’t whether or not his views are valid (they are, the US government makes Orwell look like a goddamn fairy tale writer), it’s all about the way he goes about disseminating them. If you want to say what he says you better be willing to back it up. Running away from questions about it makes him look like a total joke.

Why does anyone care what he does or what he believes? How do you know what he believes is true, isn’t? It’s important enough that someone writes an article, and we all comment on it. He doesn’t owe hockey anything. Hockey is what noticed his talents, and paid him to work for them. Its not as though he was brought off the streets and given the chance without talent.

Bingo. Nobody would care about his views are if he wasn’t a Stanley Cup champion goalie. But he chooses to use that celebrity platform to broadcast his views and then gets mad when the media asks him about them: “Facebook is my personal life, hackey is my jahb (jrrb?).”

I said it before, the Bruins should just ship him to the KHL. He can complain all he wants about their federal government so long as he can say ‘gulag.’

It’s a pretty innocuous (and quite true) statement about professional sports place in the grand scheme of things.

Whether you agree with Thomas’ political views, (which I most certainly do not) or the article posted the point is still quite true. In the big picture that is life in the West and all around the globe, hockey’s pretty unimportant.

Having said that, Thomas really should just stop. It seems like in Tim’s world ..it’s just all about Tim. His personal opinions, his personal views on the world, and now whether or not he’s even going to honor his contract? Come on, just be a professional man…
